I thought he had an ok game, one or two decisions went against Limerick to be fair, it's swings and roundabouts I reckon.
BTW who did ye rate as Limericks best player and also their worst, I thought you could blame Noel Mooney for the first definitely and I thought he hesitated for the cross which led to the 3rd. Having said that Fennelly didn't cover himself in glory either for us.

Dont know much about these guys. Note the game is in Hogan Park Rathbane and not Pike rovers as pushed by tv3 the other night and the game is at 7:45 not 3 as in some publications during the week.

Fitzgerald is one of the group of young referees who have come through the School of Excellence.

I had the pleasure of working with him a couple of times last year and can honestly say he's an excellent referee

That's Conor Fitzgerald is it? I know him alright, sound fella. Dunno about him as a ref, I've never seen him as a ref at all. He was a linesman in turners cross once or twice last season and he did well IMO

yes indeed he did. never a better man to stick up for referees :D My god, the battles I had with him over the smallest of decisions. Great fun winding him up though :D

I hadn't seen the guy in years and all of a sudden he;s running the line at the Cross. Only time I've ever waited to shake a match officials hand after a game, instead of waiting to scream at them :)

One of the worst performances I have witnessed in a long time from a referee. If this is what is progressing through then I'm worried. There where times when he refereed the match as if it was rugby that was been played rather than soccer. His interpretation of the advantage rule is fascinating in that sense. While he was able to keep up well with the flow of the game how he failed to spot fouls directly in front of him is a mystery that not even Scooby Doo could solve. For example, Brian Donnellan received an elbow into the side of his head, he called to the referee for the foul, the ball went out of play and he delivered a right hook to the Monaghan player. All this happened in front of the referee. It should have been a direct red card for Brian which none of us could argue with, instead though he proceeds to lecture both players. If I was Mick Cooke I would have been livid with him, you cannot allow players to get away with striking their opponents. If I were both managers I would lodge a complaint about him becaue clearly he still has a lot to learn in school about the art of refereeing and until then should not be in charge of any more matches.

While he is not one of the worst he is far from being excellent.

His interpretation of advantage was as Nempton said. One incident he played advantage and after the Mon palyer had ballsed it up he called it back for a free. Donnellan should have walked. No doubt. He seemed to hate any physical contact at all. A centre half and striker could not challenge in teh air without it ending in a free. And it was kind of a lottery which way it would go.

There are worse referees and while there may be few better that is faint praise.

Donnellan was an absolute disgrace for what he did. Fair enough he was tapped in the side of his head by the Mons player with his elbow, but what he preety much entered the Eric Cantona/Paolo Di Canio area of the game with his reaction. Both clubs should put in complaints in regards to the referees handling of the game.
