At the moment a Athletic groundshare with Crumlin for the Sunday side although games are on Friday nights, the Saturday (not the one in the cup) I think play games in CIE Ranch's ground and also in Belgrave (Bluebell). I reckon 80% of the squad would be locals or have strong famaily ties to the area.

CIE play in the area known as 'The Works', a five minute stroll from the Blacklion. I don't know to much about squad.

Had no idea Maynooth had made it this far. Lived there for ten years. An away trip back to the college would be fun!

Yeah, I would absolutely love a spin back to the old stomping ground as well!

I'd say Maynooth would have to play in Richmond or somewhere else. They play the majority of their games on the college astro but I can't imagine there or Maynooth Town's ground being acceptable for a proper cup match. The university team is theoretically at least joined up with Maynooth Town (hence Maynooth University Town FC) but I'm not sure if there's any real crossover between the two.

The college astro is just a caged pitch with zero facilities for spectators, so not there. Maynooth FC's pitch isn't bad by the standard of that level, but not sure how many could actually be allowed there. There might be somewhere in Meath that's closer than Richmond.

I say Inchicore cos it's closest to Maynooth, the uni team is managed by Barry Prederville ex Pats and there is or was a link up between the uni and Pats. Sean Hoare and Jamie McGrath both studied there while at Pats. If they got a big home draw presumably it'd be reversed. The first team pitch at Maynooth Town is fenced along both sidelines but that's about the it

If Avondale were allowed to host an FAI Cup quarter final a couple of years ago, Maynooth would be allowed to host a first round game with similar facilities. If there's a fence along the side of the pitch, sure there's little else needed to hold less than 500 people at maximum that'd attend.

Sheriff played Athlone in a similar location a few years ago. Joke that it was allowed to be played there. I guess it depends on who they get drawn against.

In the Cup up North this year any team below the 2nd tier that was drawn at home had to automatically concede home advantage to a Premier Division team.

So the non-league qualifiers for the cup this year are:

Pike Rovers
Leeds
Maynooth University
Inchicore Athletic
CIE Ranch
Dublin Bus
Skerries Town
North End United
Blarney United
Cockhill Celtic
Home Farm
Newmarket Celtic

I remember a Donegal newspaper headline when harps unexpectedly beat Home Farm, who had been flying up to that.

"Harps Throw Spanner in Farm Machinery".

Great days. *

when was the last night Home Farm were in this stage of the FAI Cup? Surely it wasn't 2000/01?

Don't hear any mention of Belgrove in their name any more. Any time I walk past their ground its still called Home Farm FC.

Played Tolka Rovers themselves there in 2003. Agreed, great ground to visit.

Was at that game, it was a great place to watch football from, decent atmosphere and a scorcher of a day, and the football wasn't bad either!

I wasn't at the Athlone Match but some people that were there (admittedly Cabo supporters) said it was ridiculous and match could have finished.

explains Eddie Gormleys narky mood when interviewed by Oisin Langan for off the ball. I thought Pat Devlin was the man in charge though?

Still in last years Intermediate Cup also - final in a few weeks. The timing clash of winter and summer football doesn't usually become as obvious.

They have been advertising the games at the college astro pitch locally but anything bigger will definitely be moved somewhere else.

Drogheda v Rovers and Sligo v Longford the obvious potential upsets. I don't really know anything about the non-league sides (Pike included) to know who could deliver a shock there. But Inchicore v Pats has to be interesting

Any one got info on Cockhill Celtic?

They play in Buncrana, at their own ground just north of the centre of town. They'll likely move the match to Maginn Park, as they did for a LC game against Sligo a few years back.
They won the USL last season, and aren't a bad side at all. In saying that, Limerick will be comfortable enough against them.

I once played in goal (at underage) for Cockhill against Muff. Can't see what else you would possibly need to know.

They played at their own ground against Longford a few years ago BTW, should be able to host Limerick there no bother rather than move it to Maginn.

I know it'd be hard for him to rig it, but really seems like a needless conflict of interest to introduce

We played them on their own patch in 2015, ultra physical side who were extremely unlucky not to get something against us that day. Only for some Kevin O’Connor magic we’d have been finished.
