Press Release:: re: club Chairman
Journalist and former Connacht Rugby team manager John Fallon has been elected Chairman of the new Board of Directors of Galway United Football Club.

Fallon (40) heads up a new 14-person Board of Directors which has been put in place to guide the fortunes of the club as it enters its 28th season in league football.

"We have put together a very dynamic Board, drawn from the business, political and sporting fabric of Galway. We are all involved in this on a voluntary basis, all seeing what we can put into the club to take it forward. This club has survived and developed for almost three decades thanks to the hard work and dedication of many good people. We have now been entrusted with its wellbeing and it is a task we are looking forward to," he said.

All members of the Board have long associations with the club and are confident that the club faces a bright future under the direction of new manager Stephen Lally.

"One of the first things each director did was purchase their Season Ticket for the new campaign. We are all in this for what we can contribute to the club, not what we can extract from it. We need the people of Galway to become more involved in the club. But that is something we must facilitate and over the coming months the players and officials of Galway United will be going into the schools, visiting the clubs and involving people in the club. It is their club, not ours," added Fallon.

Fallon, a former Galway minor footballer who won an All-Ireland U-21 hurling medal with Galway in 1986, spent two years guiding the fortunes of Connacht Rugby before stepping down at the end of last season to set up Media West (Ireland), a press news and sports agency which he continues to run.

The new Board of Galway United FC is:
John Fallon, Michael J. Crowe, Sean Hynes, Maeve Joyce, Geraldine Shields, Paraic Doherty, Donal Downes, Nial O¹Reilly, Martin Quinn, Oliver Daniels, Bernie O¹Connell, Michael D. Higgins, Paul Shelly and Gerry Rabbitte.

I see that our new board members have guaranteed that they will each buy a season ticket. Tremendous gesture.

Not cardboard cutouts in any way, at all.
