Why? They have way more PL appearances than the forwards.

Recency bias maybe, Coleman has scored 2 in the last 4 seasons, McCarthy hasn’t scored a single goal in the last 4 seasons. I think I’d probably have guessed Hendrick or Brady

Despite inconsistency, Robinson definitely has PL skills. He's Ireland's best forward. Connolly? Spurs double, peroxide and The Sun.

Hard to disagree here. There's a long way to go to recognising talent and prospects and managing expectations

Okay word of advice, next time don’t ask me questions about this kind of stuff if you aren’t prepared for the answer.

Again, off-topic goes in the other thread. If you have a problem with moderation, post in the Support forum. I will be doling out infractions each and every time the rules are broken and my instructions are ignored, and then suspensions, and then bans. You are entitled to your beliefs, no matter how ridiculous they are. I am entitled to apply the rules.

Can I have my post about Callum Robinson putting in a performance tomorrow moved back over from the vacvine thread to this? It was inappropriately shifted. I have stated as such in the other thread to which is one I’ve no interest in getting involved in.

Maybe just post it again. I think it was unintentionally moved over along with a lot of other stuff, but yeah, it more rightly belonged here.

Yeah I grant you that may have been easier than making two seperate posts about a single not particularly interesting post.

I have to say, I'm delighted for Callum, especially after the rather ugly vilification campaign over the past several days. To his great credit he didn't let it affect him at all, and his performance today proved it.

Always?:) What age was he when you jumped upon the already crowded Robinson bandwagon?

Does he have to register his rating on this forum or can he register it elsewhere? Or can he just always silently maintain the rating with himself?

tetsujin1979

he's free to register his rating wherever he chooses. I just think it's strange he'd wait more than two years to register his rating of player he's always rated on a forum that discusses players, and their ratings.

Delighted for him doing well in last two games but we mustn't forget he lost the ball a good few times last night and also put a few passes astray. Those could be punished against better teams. I remember him cheaply losing the ball against Wales away under O'Neill and they scored from it.

He also needs a bit of freedom to be able to try things that might not always work out but don't want to also think he's the messiah either.

Id be intertest in the stats here. 5 goals in 2 days bring his total to 6
how many current players have 6 goals or more, Mclean and duffy and I guess no-one else

Wiki is your friend (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Ireland_national_football_team#Current _squad). Duffy has 6, not more than 6.

Long, Brady and McClean are the other only players called up in the past year with more than 2 goals to their name.

How many more would Robinson have had had he gotten his vaccine though...?

Robbie Brady and Shane Long could still be counted there. Mcgeady, McCarthy and Hendrick should really have more goals too!

I wouldn't include Brady or Long. they wont be involved. I would say longs international career is over and brady could be too actually

Yeah, I'd agree - more so with Long than Brady, who has a couple of years left if he can find a club - but that's the technically correct answer anyway.

I saw a mildly interesting stat yesterday that the goals against Qatar mean that Robinson and Duffy have now scored as many goals for Ireland as Ray Houghton. Interesting because I would have guessed that he'd scored quite a bit more than 6 goals in his 80 or so caps.

Answering my own question - apparently not, which is surprising given number of caps and his scoring statistics for Liverpool.

One or two not so kind people suggest that he did not “ put it all in “ for Ireland. This was said of Liverpool players for their other international teams as well ~ Ferguson with Utd players before Ferguson with Utd players type of thing,

One thing that cannot be denied is that Steve Highway was a hell of a player for Liverpool. Not over specular but hugely effective and hugely effective consistently. Great Player.

Very underrated player. Remember him putting in a performance for us against England at Wembley. Drew 1- 1 but should have won. Giles, Brady, Daly, Givens, Conroy and Heighway were our midfield and forwards. They could all play..

Watched the West Brom match. Was shocked to hear Robinson hasn’t scored in something like 15 or 16 matches at club level given his form for us. That said he did well and created his team’s first goal with a brilliantly weighted through ball in a winning effort.

Nice Irish representation in WBA v Derby. Robinson, Molumby, Ebosele and Knight. Cashing and Watson on bench for the the Rams.

Probably because the goals he did score were so iconic, you'd assume he'd scored a bunch of more mundane goals. Also, at least half his goals seem to have been scored in slow-motion - against England, Italy and Belgium

Nice Irish representation in WBA v Derby. Robinson, Molumby, Ebosele and Knight. Cashing and Watson on bench for the the Rams.

watched the second half, Derby lads all came out of it well. Ebosele and Knight both showed really good ability. Ebosele is incredibly raw, it seemed every pass he hit was intercepted (maybe a little down to tiredness) but showed a great ability to carry the ball up the pitch when Derby were under pressure and camped in their box and win a throw in 40 yards further down the line than he picked it up. tackling was decent as well. overall, great work rate and contributed to the win. Knight, similarly important contribution. Negatives would be at times he's still a little lightweight and shows a lack of experience on occasion both with and without the ball. there was a situation late on where he picked up the ball on the side line near the corner flag, two west brom players were closing him down and instead of turning towards the corner flag where he would have passed the players and either won a corner, a freekick a throw or beaten everyone, he turned back inside, where he had two lads tackling him and ultimately lost the ball. it felt like perhaps it was also tiredness, when you compared his attacking instincts for Ireland recently. equally, he was being asked to mark probably west brom's most dangerous player at set pieces but he lost his man once and didn't challenge for a header another time. nonetheless, a good performance. Cashin came on playing centre-half as an extra defender for the last 10 minutes including stoppages and made three really important blocks and clearing headers. only tested one part of his game but he did well.

Robinson was dangerous but not exceptional both in the centre and out wide left but there were very few opportunities and he didn't really get much service at all. apparently he had a decent chance in the first half but i didn't see it. felt a bit sad for molumby, not sure if this will make sense to other people but it felt like watching the bad jordan henderson, as opposed to the good one. not sure whether he's bereft of confidence or whether the manager has him reigned in but it's all really safe. he's playing deeper than you'd expect, just receiving the ball and feeding decent passes out to overlapping full backs. it's not that he's playing bad, it's just that he doesn't seem himself or some of the qualities that made him so special are missing. he's stopped carrying the ball and driving with it, he's not getting into positions where he can really impact the game. it'll probably comfortably turn him into a regular championship starter but far less likely to be a player that will make a difference in an irish shirt... Taylor Garner-Hickman did very well when coming on, he was quick, composed, technically comfortable and the decision making was good, not a lot of time to influence the game but in the 4 or 5 times he was involved, he did well...

A good day for our more established strikers - no goals for Robinson today but came on for the last fifteen minutes and contributed two assists in that time: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/60005717

Signs for Cardiff today. Bit of an enigma, Robinson, shows flashes of real quality, but never seems to sustain the confidence of managers.
