In an exciting First Division clash at Saint Colman's Park this evening, Cobh Ramblers were 3-0 up against Athlone Town before the midlanders scored twice in eight minutes, but Ramblers did win 4-2 in the end.

Athlone have now lost to the Division's two bottom clubs in the same week and they could very well slip into the re-election zone. Cobh are currently just two points adrift of seventh place.

Willie Bruton scored the game's first goal after 27 minutes and he doubled his tally 13 minutes later. Bruton had scored just twice in the League prior to tonight's match.

Things got from bad to worse for the visitors just five minutes the other side of the interval when Mark Clifford made it 3-0 as the home fans could hardly believe the ease with which their side was winning.

Their joy was rather ephemeral though: Alan McNevin got a rare goal two minutes later and former Longford Town defender Conor Frawley replied on the hour mark.

Cobh had to endure some nervy moments in the last half an hour but Bruton completed his hat-trick in injury time to ensure Liam McMahon could enjoy Ramblers' sixth win of the campaign.
