View Full Version : What will define success for the club you love this season.

Ok so at the end of the season what level of performance from your team will you use to judge it a successful domestic season.
For me it will be Rovers finishing in the top three but within 9 points of the winners if they do not win it themselves, an FAI cup semi final spot and for one of our underage teams to be there or thereabouts in their league come the business end.

For us there is a rangeof success. We don't necessarily need to retain trophies but we need to be competitive. If we don't win the league then we need European progress and maybe a cup.

Be competitive on the field and financially stable.

Get movement on ground move.

Sort out our previously decent but recently deplorable PR.

For me if Rovers challenge and finish top 3 but still be in with a shout with 1 series of games to go.
Also I'd love to see Sean boyd , Trevor Clarke, Aaron Bolger play a lot of games.

Not getting relegated.

Win the First Division going undefeated. Semi finals minimum in all cups.

Ah no, given the competition this year I reckon being in the promotion shake up for the season and getting into the play offs would be a reasonably successful year. Hopefully some good football along the way and a bit of a cup run too.

Retaining the league for the first time ever.

As Osarusan said, not getting relegated would be a successful season for us at this stage.

Being in the promotion shake up with a big improvement in the crowds coming through the gate. To bring a few more from our underage teams through to the senior panel too. Finally to gain the respect of the town back again.

Not getting relegated.

Have you no ambition, as Neil says "I'd like to leave a legacy and push the club to boundaries where they've never been before."

Sorry, that was last year............. to be slightly less s h i ty than the s h i tiest...

Minimum requirement is European Qualification and to be in contention in the title race. To play three rounds of European competition.

With the squad we've assembled I think a serious challenge for promotion is a must, being way off the promotion places would be a serious negative for the whole club and any developments we hope to make on and off the field.....

Finally to gain the respect of the town back again.

I’d be happy out with just that. Everything else will follow but getting respected again has to be a priority

Avoid relegation , compete at advanced stages of League and FAI cups. Beat the top three (again).
Ringfenced funding for New Dalymount.

Ollie Horgan to say something positive.

I think you may have strayed into 'massive, possibly unrealistic, bonus' territory there.

Break the curse of the 12 year gap and retain the title.
Do very well in Europe (few rounds of the champions league/reach Europa league group stage.
Win the league cup - we're due one

Not asking for much ha

Winning the Collingwood.

Which we've already done.

I would say closing the gap on the top two and winning the cup would constitute a successful season for Rovers.

Regaining the league title.

A decent euro run would also help.

Europe.

Yeah would agree. Think we have a shot at it too. Hopefully last years horror show won't be repeated (I don think it will.) Another cup win would be lovely, but you can't really make that a target.

For Wexford, a top four finish in Division I would be great but likely to be out of our reach. Still think Aaron Dobbs could be key for us this year. Would also like to see a few improvements in the ground - my own pet hate is the way the ball can regularly get under the stand in Ferrycarrig forcing the fourth official to throw another one in. For Wexford Youths Women, a league and cup double and progression out of the group stages of the Champions League would be nice.

Just wondering how do they do that or what can they do to affect that?

For the Kerry League, it'll be finishing in midtable region.

For Limerick FC, I'll hope to make a few games, I imagine it'll be staying in the Premier Division, even via the playoffs.
