View Full Version : Setanta Commentry and Studio Team
Setanta Sports have also revealed their broadcast team for the tournament, which kicks off next Tuesday, March 15th when Glentoran host Longford Town at The Oval (kick-off 7.15pm).
Former head of UTV sport Paul McDowell will present the station's Setanta Cup coverage while alongside him will be former Cork City manager Pat Dolan who will be providing the expert analysis from the Setanta Sports studio at each ground.
Commentary will be from Derek Kiely who has wide-ranging domestic and European experience with Chorus TV while former Northern Ireland international manager Bryan Hamilton will co-commentate. Setanta Sports will broadcast a minimum of 11 Setanta Cup matches live between March 15th and May 21st.
Big Pat was'nt out of work to long was he ? :D
Dolan is always interesting as a co-commentator and analyst. He'll be a hell of a lot better than Roddy's gobsh*tery, Doolins whingy voice and Kinger's stupidity.

Not sure about Derek Kiely as commentator.
I always thought that he was alright to be honest. Always said that it would be good to hear him in a live situation and with interacting someone else (remember a good few years ago Dave Hill helped with a game with Derek and it was good) Mightn't be too bad at all.
It sounds like Kiely is doing radio commentary. He talks waaaay too much.
However, maybe he will do well in a more professional set-up?

I agree, Doolin espically comes across terribley on TV, like he's nervous and talks too quickly and too much or something, just sounds wrong. Roddy is good for a laugh (Mainly at him) and the less said about Kinger the better :D
Dolan, when not whinging about certain clubs ;) always comes across well on the TV and hypes the league whenever possible like they do in England, which is what's needed.

By the way they just said something about previewing the Setanta cup on Setanta now (The boro UEFA cup game is on). I didn't quite catch what he said but I assume he meant some kind of preview after the match has finished? I'll be watching anyway but it's one to keep an eye on, could be good.
EDIT - It was actually on instead of a half time discussion. It was all filmed at the draw, interviews with some managers and Pat Jennings and Packie Bonnar too.
Setanta are a commercial station so i'm sure they'll promote the tiournament properly.
Must have been all of 50 people watching that Boro game on tv.

At a rough guess I'd say 200-300 will be heading to Glentoran..not huge but then it's a Tuesday night.
