I'm only surprised that not all 20 were deemed Premier standard by the FAI. Now we wait and see if we finish the year with 20.

Can someone explain to me how Athlone got a Premier Division License? Is it only based on facilities or did the Independent Committee just not see anything about Athlone last year?

The details are all here: http://www.fai.ie/domestic/governance/club-licensing

Infrastructure plans are accepted as well as current facilities which is how the likes of Harps can get through.

It's sad that vague, loose plans for future infrastructure are enough to get greenlit for a Premier License, but, the need for 20 clubs at all, is greater
