I don't know if anyone noticed or posted but there was a full Premier League fixture list with the Mirror last Sunday. Working in a newsagents I was able to grab one. It's quite nice. Pocket size, space to write in results, last years results in the same fixtures, last years top scorers list and name, manager, address, and full detailed list of honours for all Premier Division clubs.

Must mind and buy that one. It'll probably be the only time i'll buy the Mirror!

The Star are doing one as well, anyone know when that's coming out?

Will let them away with that one. Be very poor show if not changed for wednesdays mag considering Dolan gone for a week now.

Will be fun looking at strange predicted lineups this year.

That might be a bit harsh pete tbh. I mean they could've been printed last week before the announcment, think that'd be the end of the activity...

If i recall last season, the mirror magazine was poorly researched with some obvious mistakes (threw it out as a result when i got the one from the star).

Remember thinking that the star one kicked its a**e and still have that here on my desk at work.

Will still get the mirror one anyway though out of curiousity

The one in the Star has been alot better for the last few years, alot better researched etc. However, I feltthe Mirrors eL coverage last season was 2nd to none with their 8 (then 4) page supplement every friday. Good interviews, good information.

You've reminded me about how pis sed off I was last Saturday when I bought the Mirror because it advertised the eL fixture guide. Written on the front was "All the teams, All the Games" In fact it wasn't all the games at all, or all the teams. It was just the Premier Division games and teams. Unfortunately you had to open the plastic bag to get it out, so I couldn't bring the rag back to the shop. I will not be buying it again.

spot on. In fairness to the mirror, they have plugged their eL coverage a lot, even if some of it hasn't been brilliant. I guess the more support they get, the more it will improve. I saw an ad on tv for it last night.

I think the Star's one will be out on Saturday.
But I wouldn't know anything about that! ;)

I can see the circulation department quaking at that. It's hard enough to convince newspapers to cover any EL, never mind first div., regardless of the undoubted merit of that splendid cohort.
The Miirror has done a great job on covering Irish football of late, and has put GAA-rugby-racing-and-golf-obsessed Irish newspapers to shame.

I've seen a good few ads on tv for the Mirror on wednesday so there must be a commercial logic to it - they wouldn't spend cash on ads just for the sake of it.

I remember last year that PFAI memebers were alwasy in suggested lineups like McGuinness (PFAI chairman or something) at Shamrock Rovers when had little chance of playing...

Have I missed something or have the Mirror totally ****ed up the 2004 results column in the fixtures guide?

The first thing that occurred to me was that since there was four series last season that there should have been an extra space for the extra corresponding fixture.

But they also seem to have got results wrong and have left out others.

For example:

Our four results last season against Rovers were: 2-2, 2-1 defeat, 3-2 win and 1-0 win.

The Mirror has: 3-2 win, 1-0 win and another 3-2 win for Bohs ???

Our four results against Shels were: 1-1, 0-0, 2-0 win, 1-1

Yet the Mirror has only two results given; the 2-0 win and one of the 1-1

I've noticed a series of inaccuracies throughout the 2004 results, not just for Bohs. In one of the fixtures they also have us down as Bohemians Utd. Anyone who knows anything about Bohs knows that the last thing we are is united. ;)

Whoever proof read that should be shot. It looks well though. :p

The Star will have one out next Monday (14th).

Some top quality articles to appear in it too ;)

The Mirror mag is a decent oul read with some good articles on players from abroad, players rights , the pressures on eircom league players and how sport and politics are becoming intertwined. There is also an excellent article on the role of the commercial manager in an eircom league club.

Surely the least they could do is get the squads right..

They've two players listed in the Harps squad that departed midway through last season

I'm not talking about covering it - I am just saying "all the teams" does not (to me anyway) mean 12. If only Rovers had been relegated.... :)

I thought the mag in todays mirror was alot better than their efforts of previous seasons. The articles on players rights, players from abroad, pressure on part time players were all very well written. The single page profile of the premier league teams and the half page profile on the first division teams was a little sahbby and under researched. But what really p1ssed me off was the ad that they allowed RTE to run on the back page. That will really encourage armchair supporters to come out and support their local team for the coming season

the articles in it are good but the preview of the teams isn't great.1 tiny paragraph preview on how the team might do and another 1 for each of the following, key man, manager and watch out for..thought they could have done more on that aspect of the mag but sure its better than nothing.

Personally i think it's a mockery ! They have John Flood as our player to watch ! no research done what so ever, if they had of done a bit they would have known they Floody has as good as retired from footie due to a serious injury and has'nt played a game for us since half way through last season.

Sparkey - it's not the job of Irish media to either actively promote our league, or to turn down legitimate advertising revenue in a naive attempt to do so.

Do we ever not grumble about the Eircom League....?

Good to have mag as get some publicity out of it but its standard continues to be lacking.

Dubious Probable Lineups - O'Halloran played centre back for city a few times last season when suspensions but never likely to play there regularily. O'Brien unlikely to take place of Gamble in midfield.
Incorrect or sketchy squads - apparently Shane Guthrie is a forward when he is a defender. Did they mix up with Shane Long?
Lack of prrof reading - in one sentence they acknowledge that Dolan is gone (likely to be replaced by Rico) but in another sentence assume Dolan still there.

Looks like just excuse for some publicity for the PFAI & i'd say they happy as long as breakeven with ads.

Interesting to see Shamrock Rovers have 12 man squad for 2005. I know they having hard time but...

Dubious Probable Lineups

In fairness, guessing any probable line-up is going to be dubious.

Lack of prrof reading
That's just too funny.
