Well lads with the squad announced at that wonderful open hour  the transfer window closed, supposed contenders Kildare County being hammered on a regular basis and everything in place I thinks its prediction time.

I predict an heroic run to the play-off spot in what will be a very open division :D

Also, I would like to exclude JohnD from this discussion on the basis that he predicted Limerick would finish third last season  :D

Unusually optimistic for me, but I reckon Town will finish in the top 3.

We finally have a bit of bite back in midfield with John Flanagan and
Danny O'Leary has been very good in goals during pre season.
Could have done with signing another striker but hopefully Alan O'Connor
will knock in a good few

The First Division is as open as ever really. It's difficult to really rule anybody out with any degree of certainty. Teams like Cobh and ourselves have proven with runs to the play-offs in recent years that there's plenty of scope for a decent charge.

I think Athlone have added a lot of players and will surprise a few people. Sligo should improve on last year too but they've been threatening to assemble a team for the last 4-5 years and never quite pulled it off. Dublin City seem to be recreating the team that got them promoted two years ago and should be there or thereabouts. I think that Kildare will flatter to deceive to be honest. I think that Galway could in transistion too. Dundalk could be a good outside bet for the division. I don't see much from Monaghan or Kilkenny.

As for ourselves, on paper our squad should be more or less up to standard, I think that with a bit of luck we could push for a play-off spot. I'd be surprised if we do go this year but fingers crossed huh. I'll put my neck on the line and say fifth.

With the right focus and a bit of luck theres no reason why we shouldnt at least make the playoffs! I predict we will take a big scalp in the fai senior cup! Maybe the reds fron cork.

Personally I'd go for something on the fence like 4th spot or something, but I'll still slap a tenner on Limerick at 14-1!

not tryin to be smart but what reason do ye have to expect much better than last season?

Are you talking about Limerick?

1. We are football fans who are always ridiculously optimistic at the start of every season - isn't this true of all clubs? :)
2. I think last season was just a write-off from about half way through. we just made up the numbers (barely) last season so many of the matches weren't even contests. That had a lot (all) to do with off-pitch things at the club. The off-pitch stability and competition for places (which was completely absent last year) should mean better performances.
3. The new players signed should add to the squad - we suffered up front last season and have re-signed Derek McCarthy who scored goals for us on out play off run. We needed a reliable partner for Finucane at the back and Wolfe and Lynch should provide that. In midfield we will have Brendan Hughes for the full season - and good signings around him - on paper at least Young, Donellan, Kearns and Jamie Nolan in particular give hope.
4. A lot depends on how the season starts. If we can win a few at the start and confidence is up I think the whole atmosphere around the club will pick up and we could replicate the performances of the season before last.

Tenuous maybe but that's pre-season optimism for you. :ball:

Agree with LFC in ex.. good start is crucial, playing catchup early on is always a nightmare!
