View Full Version : eL Merger with FAI
Much as I distrust Delaney, he seems to have done something right with the television deal, and maybe it's the best for the league to join up now.

LOL
AFAIK the RTE international deal was negotiated and tied up by Fran Rooney with no involvement from Delaney while the eL deal was agreed in principal with one or two outstanding issues needing i's dotted and t's crossed.
Amazing how some people can claim credit and appear to look good for deals worked out by their predecessors. ;

What's the difference betwen the two (or why is/was there the need for two separate entities)? What's to be gained from merging? What's to be had from staying separate? To be honest, I'd say very few here would really understand this, involving as it does FAI politics ( :) ). I'm one of those irritating "No opinions", I'm afraid!

Mods : Can i change my vote .... i .... ahh .... kinda .... Not really it was the mouse, damn pesky mouse !! D'ah nuts :p
I'd rather stay at arms length to be honest as it would be easier to break away from them that way .... they haven't really turned over a new leaf yet to be honest. As much as people wish they have .... it has yet to be proven.
If we did merge ... i'd imagine it would be alot harder to break away and the league would suffer as it could only be messy knowing the FAI.
Hate having to say that as in theory, i'd love to merge, but we just aint in a situation where you can apply theory to anything that they actually do.
So in short ..... no, not for a few years just yet.

How many of the 60 odd council members are interested in the EL. IMO they're more interested in the freebies.

I made a mistake in voting yes. The FAI are scúmbags in the true sense of the word. I thought that idiot Delaney got the E.L deal. Obviously he is just up to his old tricks.
I cant see how the FAI could improve the league to be fair. it would make a all island priemer division with two divisions (on the same level but in different countries) harder to implement.

I voted yes, on the basis that the FAI can't be much more incompetent than the league have been, and might even do a better job. I really can't see anyone doing a worse job than the people who have been running it up to now. Not to say that I trust the FAI or anything

I agree. League Management has been pathetic. At least the FAI can be shamed into changing.
Hard to know what stance to take on the merger of two of the world's most incompetent organisations.
But maybe two wrongs can make a right.....

we all know how bad they both are but at least from now on there will be one place responsible for getting this league where we all want it to go
no more passing the buck

Is this correct?
I thought Delaney had a lot to do with the eL part of the deal?
I still think it would be better to merge, as the FAI gets all the funding and it might be easier to access whatever money is going.

I'm pretty sure Soccerc is correct on this. Rooney was responsible for the television deal for both getting the rights back to RTE for the International matches and also getting more/better coverage for eL.
Delaney was responisble for selling the rights to the International matches to Sky, Rooney got them back, remember?
