So, safe for another year.

What’s people’s opinions on who to keep?

Signed:

Brendan Clarke
Freddy Hall
Tony Whitehead

So they’re fair enough.

Defence

Keep:

Dave O’Connor – He is the worst left back in the world. He is also a perfectly serviceable, mediocre left sided centre half. Talk is McDonald is going three at the back. If so he has done enough for another go in the squad imo.

Shane Tracy – I’d have him around forever. Realistically I’d say he’s gone.

Dean Clarke – Not a right back. It looks like shamrock broke him really badly. Would keep for another year. Not sure why.

Cut:

Barry Cotter – Really, really, terrible at being a right back. Would argue that you could maybe make some class of a winger out of him but if the rumors about his behavior from my ever reliable sauces are true he should be dropkicked out the door.

Killian Brouder – What’s the point??

Midfield

Keep:

Bastien Hery – I don’t care if he has only turned it on in contract season, I want him kept. Untouchable on his day in this league.

Lee Jay – Puts in the effort of seven men. Keep.

Duggie – Found his mojo again in recent weeks. Assuming he still wants to play football I’d keep.

Cut:

Stephen Kenny – Not good enough. Doesn’t try. Destined to be a big wheel at Cobh Ramblers.

Henry Cameron – Looks broken beyond repair.

Attack:

Keep:

Dozie – Keep. Unless offered money. In which case sell sell sell.

Tosi – If he can be convinced to stay, he should be kept. Class act.

John O’Flynn – Ten year deal imho.

Peter Berki – Apparently he drives the lads around in the minibus and is popular in Bruff. If cheap, should be kept as a kind of driver/mascot.

So, in summary, we need about a dozen players heading into next year. (I can’t remember the last year when this wasn’t the case)

No terrible harps or drogs to bail us out next year. If we go cheap we WILL get a repeat of relegationgate.

Speaking of finances, our beloved chairman has gone off to fight government oppresion. Anyone know the status of the moneyman??

Discuss the issues. :good:

Henry Cameron is signed for next year too....lol.

I'd be close enough to you I'd say I'd keep:

Dave O'Connor: As you say poor left back been solid as a CB wouldn't mind him as back up.

Dean Clarke: We know what he is capable of from the last time he was with us been messed around a bit this year being thrown around different positions and being taken out of the team when he has been doing well. Dunno how he isn't in the starting 11 now.

Bastien: Obvious reasons

Lee J: Think he is our best player tbh and is only slowed down by the lack of quality around him at times. In a good team think he could be unreal.

Duggy: Has had a quiet year but is capable of dragging us through a game when needed if he can get back to himself.

Dozie: Shown at stages why he is one of the most exciting young talents in the league with a bit of good coaching could either be a top top player in this league or more than likely move across.

Tosi: Who would we replace his goals with realistically? Same as Lee J think he suffers from our lack of quality at the minute but still his goal tally is not to be sniffed at. Has shown his quality more than enough.

Out:

Cotter: Not a hope he is going anywhere and not even really for football reasons I'd be fairly sure it would be for the same reasons as you have mentioned.

Kenny: Simply not up to premier standard

O'Flynn: Unfortunately I think his time is up unbelievable player in his day we saw signs of it last season but has he even played 90 mins throughout the whole season? Waste of his time sitting on the bench and not even getting a run.

Berki: Works hard not good enough.

Didn't mention Tracy cos I think he will make his own decision to leave anyway but I would keep him if he was up for it.

I'd be looking to keep:

Hall
Clarke

Whitehead
O'Connor
Tracy

Lynch
Hery
Duggan
Clarke
Ogbene

Tosi

If lads like Cotter and William Fitzgerald can be kept for next to nothing, then keep them too, find an underage team for them to play in if possible, even loan them out if possible. I wouldn't mind if Crowe was around as a right sided centre-half or general defensive backup.

O'Flynn doesn't have anything left in him I think, and Berki isn't enough of a threat. Kenny simply isn't good enough and never will be, so many attacks break down with him. Cameron was just a failure on every level, I wonder if what McDonald saw of him was before an injury that ruined him or something.

But it all depends on what they cost and what can be brought in to replace them. I don't think McDonald likes Dean Clarke at all, so he might be let go, which would be disappointing.

Pros:
Ogbene, Hery, Tosi, Clarke, Lynch
Duggan and Tracey towards the end of the season
Cup run generally
Two Cork performances late on
Being just that little bit more consistent than the teams below

Cons
Inconsistent in every other respect
Taking ages to pick a new manager
Taking ages for the new manager to settle
General mid-season transfer window shenanigans
Defensive players out of position constantly
Cotter, Berki, Cameron
Duggan for most of the middle of the season
More management/BA disputes

So much work to be done over the winter, but odds are, just as the last few managers have found, getting a team sorted for the coming season will take months and will only be sorted at the last second.

The one thing I will say in the clubs defence is the squad not being sorted before the start of this season was entirely the managers fault they had provided him with all the resources necessary and he failed miserably. Now it is still their fault they kept a manager they knew hadn't a clue how to assemble a squad but if they provide the same as last season you would hope Neil can do a lot better than his predecessor and himself so far in the market.

I’d say Hery. He has done enough for another team in England to come back in for him and he has been living in a hotel so probably not overly keen on staying.

If Ogbene goes we are in line for a payday. 20 years of age and 1 year to go in his contract.

To be fair to Andrew I don't think its meant as McNamee in or Ogbene out.

It's that we are talking to McNamee (which we are) and that there are English teams looking at Dozie which of course there is since his time with Cork. Been scouts over watching Dozie all year doubt there is any need to plant anything.

Baffling that people will be happy if we sell Ogbene for a fee. He's one of the best attackers in the league and we won't be replacing his quality in all honesty.

I've maintained for weeks that he will leave but I won't be happy because we got money to buy sub standard players or use it to cover the 100k+ Dino McDonald is on.

Realistically though if he is going to go you want the club to get as much as possible. Help relieve any final pressures there might be and could help with bringing in more players.

Got to keep Tosi and Bastian. Ogbene would be fantastic to keep. Duggie and Lee J after that. O Conner has been really good at CB. We badly badly need a left full. Shane has been a fantastic servant but he is not up to premier standard anymore. I'm not up to date with any of Cotters antics, apart from that he should stay. Need a right full so Clarke can play further up the pitch. Need a CB, way to many goals came directly from Whitehead errors. The last Shams game also showed that against a big CF he is brutal. Finally, 1 each no nonsense defender + midfielder with a few years premier experience.

It was mentioned in the first post I read. If we get money for him "sell, sell , sell." Mind-boggling.

I have no sympathy for any talk of financial pressures when Dino McDonald is on the bones of a 120 thousand euros. His Assistant must be pulling 50k anyway to be over here. Christ if we could actually use our resources properly we might get somewhere.

Would love to have Kenny back at Cobh. Always felt he looked a bit out of his depth in the Premier but he would right at home back in the First. Hopefully he still has the appetite for LOI. Would be wasted in Munster Senior League. Can't see any LOI clubs other than us trying for him really.

We could have had Steven Kenny for half of it .. but the numbskulls picked Taylor instead. Don't even get me started on some of the other potential candidates that wanted the job .. Fenlon, Kerr (twice) and Barraclough ... We'll never use the resources properly

I still can’t see any post where someone says if we get money for him “sell sell sell”.

When it costs at least €1.2m to run a premier divison club then you have to have some sympathy. I have no idea what McDonald is on but if he is on 120k then covering his wage would then free up money for more signings surely.

What resources do we have? Outside of investment from money men we would have a very basic squad and probably be in the first divison. Similar to most LOI clubs.

That’s why I said outside of money men we would have a weak squad because we don’t have loads of resources.. If we had big sponsorship, an academy producing regular players going abroad I would say something but we aren’t in a position like that. We don’t even have a main shirt sponsor.

As it stands do we don’t even know if the investment put in to date is going to continue and if it is to what level. Will it be higher than this season, the same or lower?

I think the point the other fella was making was about how much we have wasted what we had in the past and if so that can't be denied Pat has put in millions and for what? Two first division titles and so far nothing really coming through from youth section. Like if the money isn't there next season it would be typical Limerick that we had a big budget last season and have it to a complete and utter spoofer that everyone knew was a complete and utter spoofer.

We have water so much money it's insane and if the money is there now it needs to be used properly no stupid projects no nonsense just good players.

Ya I agree with you about some of the money wasted. Sadly that’s football and we certainly wouldn’t be unique when it comes to wasting money. Ideally we would have found a great manager that would have spent money wisely but we haven’t. The only one that really got away was Stephen Kenny. Outside of that I’m not sure too many were queuing up for the job. I don’t believe Kerr was that interested like rumours suggested.
