My flatmate and I are travelling to Munich over Easter, we will be in the city for the Israel v Ireland game. I have contacted 2 Irish bars; Killians and Gunther Murphy's there, they are showing the game :D , anyone know from experience what these pubs are like(esp for watching games) i have seen their websites already. Also, anyone know of any good youth hostels? and any other info re Munich? do u have to be a member of youth hostels in germany etc? blah blah anny info will be great :D
Danke!

I think that Germans are picky about you being a member if youre going to a HI hostel, but Im sure you can join on the day. You could always stay at an independent hostel. Try hostelworld.com (I think it is), they have reliable reviews and often do bookings over the net.

I stayed here (http://www.hostelworld.com/availability.php/HostelNumber.1457?PHPSESSID=d7f3211263sc7ubr7xb4sa sfowbpl4f5) in 2002, tho the price seems to have gone up a bit now... Was q.good, and you didnt have to have to have a HI card or anything like that, its about 5-10 mins on the tram or U-Bahn (subway train) into the center and the trams run into the early hours of the morning.
In munich the Shamrock bar is just up the street from murphys afaik they show irish games! Nice place too!
Murphys is great craic also! Paid them a visit when we went to europe last summer

Spent a semester in Munich University in WInter 2003. Being a student bum, became acquainted with Irish bars.
Shamrock-complete dive!
Gunthers-large pub in a basement but never the less quite comfortable. Big ****-off screen for the football. In Schwabing.
My own personal recommendation however would be Killians which is slap bang in the centre of Munich. Right beside the Frauenkirche the cathedral in the city-hence almost impossible to miss. Killians, like Gunthers, is in a basement (actually come to think of it, so is Shamrock...) but not dingy, next door is an Austalian pub, originally titled Ned Kelly's! watched all the rugby world cup in there, as well as the GAA matches, and that unfortunate game in Basel of which we shall never speak (apologies for dredging up the memories). Because it's in the centre the cost of the drink is more pricey but stick to the German beer, cheaper & tastes lot better than imported liquid. There will definitely be a sizable Irish crowd there. There's an Irish soccer club and a GAA club in Munich as well. Hope this helps.

thanks, i heard the shamrock was a sh*tehole, cheers! ok, might go for killians, but will also visit gunthers at some point. do u also know any good place which serves good local food :D i am looking forward to this.....
Proberly would also go along with Killians for the place to watch the match, bang in the center of town. Don't go without a visit to the Lowenbrau brewery cracking bar in it like the Hoffbrau house but less of a tourist attraction than it.
