Better still is fixing games on pitches that are known at the time to resemble lakes more than pitches and not calling the game off till the night before!!!

I don't have access to the weekly observer where I'm living. Could anyone post the fixtures up here? I'm not around often for games but would like to get at least one in this weekend
Even of you had access to it, it might not do you any good, last time I was around I picked out a DL game to go and see from the Observer and got to the ground (Broadford) and was the only person there. Can't remember who they were meant to be playing or where it was moved to but, the paper was wrong anyway.

I don't think you can call the league a disgrace because the fixtures where late going up on the website. I think the blame is on the schoolboys league because there is so many underage teams now and not every club has two pitches. The fixture secretary for the juniors has to wait and get the fixtures for the schoolboys before he can decide what pitches would be available on the Sunday with the weather etc.. and now that there is a ladies league the same applies. I could be wrong but i don't remember fixtures not going up on the web site before they are in The Observer before, and for players not knowing if they have a game on Sunday or not - bull **** they know matches are on Sundays so what is wrong with waiting for The Observer on a Wednesday after all there wasn't always the internet

Ballysteen won 3-0 and Shountrade won 2-1 - The Twitter account is pretty good for putting the results up on Sunday evening https://twitter.com/LgDesmond
In fairness the fixtures are usually up here: http://ldfl.leaguerepublic.com/l/league/6093030.html on a Monday - although I accept that things could change by the time the Observer comes out but in general its pretty accurate
Shoot I dont think the problem is lads knowing if they've a game on a Sunday, everyone knows they'll have a game fixed but if a pitch has no chance of being playable on a Thursday is there anything wrong with calling that early rather than having everyone hanging around all day for a half 2 KO and then the ref to call it off - lads have plenty other things to be at
I like the suggestion of publishing fixtures two weeks at a time - as you say the only extra work is in the initial two week set, after that its the same process

Some result for Newcastle Rovers besting Athea 7-1 And heard it was blown up early too.good result for Glin drawing at home to Rathkeale. Any of carrig shannonside Athea or granagh to go down so far. Looks like Killeaney and Newcastle West to go back up to the premier division. Killeaney winning 2-1 and Newcastle beating Abbey B 6-1.
Any standing out player so far in each division lads?

Fanatic - AFC flying - If the Newcastle clubs merge next year as speculated and AFC have finished in the top 2 what happens re: Promotion? 3rd go up?
:D he'd have to switch off his phone the first couple weeks!

Yeah I’d say so, 3rd place goes up? Is it still happening I wonder?
Yeah fixtures secretary would be flat out answering calls for 2 weeks. Maybe that’s why they don’t go up on website until Monday. Can’t blame him really he has a life too

Just found out that the Desmond Youths gave a walkover to Waterford on Saturday.

Why is there only 14 matches on this weekend when the league is miles behind in games. They should be putting on as many games every Sunday. The league should start playing league cup games every Friday night's in clounreask to try and get them out of the way so the season doesn't go on and on.

Back at the AGM in the summer it was suggested the last 4 league games of the season should be played at the same time in the interest of fairness. This was agreed by the clubs on the night, this could cause more delays to a season already badly affected by weather. Should the league scrap this rule for this season?

If that amalgamation goes ahead why would junior games be in the Demesne? I'd reckon they'd alternate, the Desmesne needs a bit of an upgrade too re drainage so might give them a chance to complete works there while using Woodfield. It's all only ifs and buts at the moment anyway but I can't see them using one over the other - both will be kept & used.
In relation to the Desmond Youths, shame to see that happen or to give a walkover in any inter-league competition - you don't know what the reason was Shearer?

This is all just theoretical. I would imagine Woodfield would be used pre-dominantly for Schoolboys due to the two pitches. I'm sure both grounds will get their bit of Junior Soccer anyway.
In regard to the Desmond Youths I'm not actually sure but to the best of my knowledge they were out of the competition going into the Waterford game anyway while Waterford needed a win. Desmond Youths have been a joke the last few years sadly.
I dont agree with league or any other cup games being played in Clounreask, why should teams give up home advantage when Clounreask would suit some teams more than others, clubs know if they get to any domestic final its played in Clounreask, and they have had their fair chance in the draws in the previous rounds to be home or away

Thanks for that Shearer.
There have been a few Desmond under age teams doing very well in the Kennedy cup in recent seasons (some of them must be 16-17 now?) have they moved from the league into 'town'? or are they just not involved anymore?

The best from the Kennedy Cup teams progress onto U15/17/19 League of Ireland with either Limerick FC or Kerry now.
The Desmond League is most likely switching to calendar season football after this season so I'd imagine the best lads of what's left will more than likely stay playing in the better weather.
The bad weather/lack of games tended to drive a lot to play GAA/Rugby instead of football after Kennedy Cup.
Hopefully that will change now...

Here's a stat for you:
After 9 league games, Glin Rovers have 15 points on the board at present.
Last season, Glin Rovers finished the 18 game league season with 18 points.
Fair going from Glin and a great result today, although I think Rovers might have thrown in the towel already, not to take anything away from Glin.
I dont agree with league or any other cup games being played in Clounreask, why should teams give up home advantage when Clounreask would suit some teams more than others, clubs know if they get to any domestic final its played in Clounreask, and they have had their fair chance in the draws in the previous rounds to be home or away
They're playing League Cup games inside in Jackman Park every Wednesday without fail, I don't see why we shouldn't do the same especially with Clounreask being ten times the surface that Jackman is. Along with the fact that clubs have paid money for a grounds that they might not ever play in.
In regard to Clounreask suiting some teams more than others, having league cup games would expose the bad teams early on in the competition and get rid of them. It's not the Desmond League's fault if you can't ball.

So Rovers in the Premier and Afc more than likely getting promoted. Will they have a strong team next season? Will Seoirse Joyce and Tony Quaid go back to them from ballingarry next season? What does that mean with who goes down and comes up?

08/03/2018, 12:42 AM
I suppose like every season fanatic the league committee will decide the divisions when they see what teams are entered at the beginning of the season. There was a lot of speculation Killeaney wouldn't have a team this year so it could be another team next year. As regards the 2 boys I suppose it will be up to whoever is in charge if they'd want them back, they didn't show much loyalty this season
Cruyff
08/03/2018, 8:33 AM
I would be willing to say it's unlikely that they would be welcomed, especially Joyce, Rovers very upset with him.
Tony maybe

Yeah true have heard of players and clubs numerous times over the past couple of years getting a bit of coin. I’m sure Cruyffs comment above has something to do with rovers helping him out with cash over the years, maybe you could fill everyone in Fanaticfan seeing as you seem to know who’s getting paid what as you have mentioned it several times already in this forum this year?
Also an i right in saying that Abbey have played 7 of their 9 league games at home already. A good start is everything and they certainly have the best chance of a good start with that fixture list.

Heard the amalgamation was passed alright - no more Newcastle West derbies...
Could possibly be 3 Newcastle West Town junior teams next season with their numbers!!
Re: payment to players don't see the need for it personally, if anything would it not undermine the current players at any club?
Surprise but well deserved wins for Carrig Celtic (v Broadford) & AK (v Ballingarry) in the Desmond Cup, wheels seem to be coming loose on the Ballingarry season; losing to 10 man Broadford in the league and knocked out of the Desmond Cup.
Abbeyfeale looking good at the top of the premier too; looks a case of by how much & not if they win the league.

On the note of the wheels coming loose in Ballingarry, the same can be said for Broadford at this stage.
Out of the league, knocked out of the Munster Junior at home to a side that are no great shakes and going out of the competition that they're reigning champions of with a whimper.
They'll have a job on their hands if they're to win the League Cup having drawn Rathkeale away in the Quarter Final.
