Ah right. I only saw in the observer that he retired. Best referee I've come across in the league

Askeaton has produced great refs like Donie & Paudie Manning , that seems to have come to an end a bit like the Askeaton club itself.

Thats not very nice Abbeyman a bit of a dig towards Askeaton there i sense. last i seen they where still in the league ok Division 2, their youths won the Desmond youths cup the last two seasons don't seem to be at an end to me. Abbey have a great area to pick from with them being on the Kerry border and who knows all down the years where they have been pulling players from, would i be wrong in saying that Glantine would be the nearest to them in the Desmond League where Askeaton have an awful lot of clubs surrounding them Ballysteen, Pallaskenry, AK, Shannonside Kildimo and Rathkeale, So i wonder what it would be like if the roles where reversed

Is that a sarcastic quote towards Donie O Gorman Shearer, i agree he was one of the better refs all down the years, and was one of the best players as well he played alot and that helped him to be a very good ref

Ita's also losing red hot striker Callum Donoghue he's going playing Munster Senior League for Everton.

I didn't hear much about the lower divisions. I would doubt that there were any red hot strikers down there though, those boys don't do div 2

Come on, he moves from Desmond League Division 2 after a great season to the Munster Senior League where he scores twice off the bench in a cup final. How can you not think much of a player who does that?

Ya I read that and thought I was seeing things! Money talks I suppose...still don't see them winning the league to be honest. They have improved and have always had some v decent players and sides down through the years but Rathkeale are few steps ahead I feel and are my favourites for the league.

Wasn’t there rumours of him falling out with rovers at the start of the season, pretty sure I heard he was joining Rathkeale at the start of the season.

Is it true twouptop that Abbey have an objection against ye for playing an illegal player or someone against them and have gone to the Munster council where they are confident of getting the 3 points awarded to them?

If the game was played after December 1st and his transfer went in on time they're ok. If the game took place before December 1st then Abbeyfeale will get the points.
Players playing underage national league can transfer on the 1st December and must be back for mid January not sure on the date but somewhere around there.

Going by the website they played on 19th of November so looks like abbey will be awarded the points? If so, their win away to rathkeale looks huge for their title chances.

Yeah agree with another blanket call off. Last weekend would have been okay for a lot of fields but this weekend with the rain that is falling I can’t see any going ahead. Clubs won’t want to ruin their fields. Some clubs haven’t played since November/start of December and if the weather keeps up will be over 2 months without a game. We might see a lot of Friday and Sunday game this season than usual.

My understanding is that the player was playing with Kerry U17’s, their season had finished and they were therefore entitled to sign him as a free agent. I don’t think there is anything in this other than Abbey sulking over not getting the win. It’s really disappointing to see a club of abbeys stature appeal this kind of decision

Quarter-Final Draw
St Brendan's Park v Ballingarry
Dungarvan Utd or Pike Rvs v Fermoy or Clonmel Celtic

They are, they weren't expected to get through but wouldn't have expected to concede 7 either. Better news for Broadford Youths who defeated College Corinthians on penalties to advance to the quarter finals of the Munster Youths Cup and an away tie v Douglas Hall.

That Ballingarry result wasn't great thought they'd at least compete, can't imagine they'd be too happy after the apparent investment that has been made into their squad...!!

I think the League is well run but the issuing of fixtures is an issue. There are under 16 games down for this Sunday so that was probably the reason why they were so delayed this week. Lack of refs an issue maybe? Other leagues do seem to be better with regard to the issuing of fixtures. The TSDL for example have the fixtures for 10/11 February on their website since Monday and they do that all season, as do some other leagues.

I don't think it would be a big deal to do that in the Desmond League. It just means you set the fixtures for week 1, 2 weeks before the season starts and a week before the season starts you fix week 2. Then nothing changes throughout the season as you're only doing 1 week at a time still. You need to give 3 weeks notice to have a weekend off so that wouldn't be an issue in this case

I totally agree with Nathan, it's a joke, the Cork League and District League and most leagues have fixtures up 2-3 weeks in advance. don't think it's fair on lads who play not knowing till a tuesday if they have a match or not, it's not fair on teams either, can't plan anything, guys can't plan weekends away for fear of a match being on. Fellows then getting grief from coaches if they don't show up or from family or friends cause they are like oh I'm not sure if I can make it. iT can't be that hard to put up fixtures 2 weeks in advance, refs for matches can then be sorted the week before
