Hi

I am currently putting together a new LOI book (sort of a follow-up to Just Follow The Floodlights) which will include a story (or stories) from fans of each current League of Ireland team (and some that are gone) At the moment I'm only missing Athlone Town from the current league, but if there are any fans of teams like Monaghan United, St James Gate, Kildare County etc that would like to put their own memories of their club , be it a favourite season, game, european adventure, fight with owners, cult player, or such then I'd be delighted to hear from you.
Hopefully the book will come out in time for the end of league season or Christmas. At present I'm looking for a good name to wow the publishers and when it's out I'm hoping some clubs will let me launch the book .
Included in the book is the section "Are You Calling Me A Cult" which will have one cult hero from each club. Tough task. But hopefully we'll get the right guy and contact him to give his own view!
Any input from those wishing to help out is always taken on board.

Kind Regards
Brian

It's amazing what comes to you over breakfast. I remember seeing there is a new Diary Of A Wimpy Kid movie coming out and it must have stuck in my head.

Fun and FAIl's -The Dairy of a problem child! Im sure some legal eagle in Abbotstown would have fun working on keeping that out of print somehow.

Bit of a cheesy title. No need to milk the FAI for joke titles, surely you can cup up with something a little bit butter than that.

I like that one! Be a good one for a club specific book maybe though.

"The next Asterisk"

'Asterisk the Goal'.

Call all the chapters after characters from the original -
Unhygienix - the stink from the FAI
Getafix - the Athlone Town saga
Cacofonix - why won't anyone listen to Roddy?
I'll leave the rest to yourself.

Just Follow The Floodlights sold around 2,000 copies Nigel. I'd hope to sell 1,000 + with this if its self published. If a publisher involved , maybe more.

That's a decent amount Brian - great work. I hope the publisher was pleased, as it'll help the case for more LOI books in future.

I wonder what's been the best selling LOI book in recent years - Who Stole Our Game ?

writerbk1969

To be honest the publisher was delighted at first and went for a reprint but then I think overstretched with a 2nd reprint and he was left with a couple of hundred copies and became a miserable *******! Didn't seem to care about the thousands of euros he made on the book, just the 100/200 left.
I done most of the promotion and made small money on each copy.
Best selling LOI book? Well it's not a book called Gods & Mortals by Paul Keane but it's certainly one of the best. Tells the story of LOI clubs taking on big European clubs in the European Cup (Limerick v Real Madrid, Waterford v Man Utd etc) well worth a look.

What about "Ireland On The Ball" By Donal Cullen? It was a classic in the early 1990s.

At the moment I have a working title of - One Team, One Dream , Won Friday Night.
I'll be trying to launch the book in different clubs throughout the country like Just Follow The Floodlights.
In the case of Dublin if I can't find a club I was told over several good locations that do book launches and room hire is free.
I've bee looking at these few - The Waterloo, 51, JW Sweetman The Bores Head and Jack Melons. If anybody knows a good or better city centre pub that hosts 50 plus I'd be interested in hearing from you, or if you been to one of the pubs I mentioned.

I have a date marked in for a possible launch in Limerick. I found out Markets Field isn't an option but was told a place called Jerry O'Dea's is popular with Limerick fans. Just want a small area I can sell it.

Jerry's where the Blue Army supporters club hold their meetings and have pre and post match drinks. Ideal spot.

I'm sure Dalymount could be a runner with the bars available. Would suggest contacting the club if you haven't already.
