Another good performance from Wexford but let down again by this season's failing - an inability to score goals - as Waterford took the three points by virtue of a solitary goal in Ferrycarrig tonight. Wexford started with Corey, Ricky, Owen, Ross, Craig, Mark, Duxey, Eoin, Crokey, and with Danny and Lee up front. First half had very few chances and Wexford more than matched their table-topping visitors. On four minutes, Eoin Porter had a volley blocked following a long throw by Craig McCabe. Virtually no decent efforts on goal at either end from then until the 28th minute, when Mark Slater, getting better with each game, had a curling effort a yard wide. Mark O'Sullivan of Waterford was looking dangerous in the air but Wexford were generally coping. On 44 minutes, Waterford had a low volley which flashed a yard wide from a Blues corner. O'Sullivan then went into a tackle with Wexford's Craig McCabe but fared badly as he hobbled off the pitch. 0-0 at half-time after an even enough game.

O'Sullivan didn't reappear for the second half and was replaced by Speedy Whittle. The only goal came on 51 minutes when Daly was allowed too much room to turn in the Wexford penalty area, and buried a low drive past Corey Chambers for 1-0 to Waterford. Wexford applied a reasonable amount of pressure from then on but the nearest they game to scoring was when Slater netted from a very tight angle, but the linesman had adjudged that the ball had gone over the endline before the shot was struck. Danny Doyle had a run and shot which went a yard wide later on while late subs were Liam Donnelly and Andy O'Connor. Final score was 1-0 to Waterford. Wexford's hunt for a goal-scoring threat has to continue until the next game. Best for Wexford on the night were Duxey Dunne, Danny Doyle and Mark Slater. Looked close to 600 at the game with a very sizeable crowd from Waterford.

It didn't look like a top v bottom game. Waterford aren't setting the world alight but we are solid and getting 1 or 2 goal wins. Decent effort from Wexford. Ye put us under pressure in 2nd half near the end but couldn't get a goal. It was my first visit to Ferrycarraig Park and it's a nice venue there.
