Because I'm clueless.

Eventually getting the PC set-up in the new home, so plugged my phone line into the modem slot, pressed dial-up button (not in a broadband region)...no clicks, dial tones or anything.

But the message that popped up was that my modem didn't support the phone-line, that it was only compatible with analog lines.

AFAIK I have an analog phone line  , I had the PC hooked up to a broadband connection in the last house, would that have made a difference?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What type of modem do you have?
Can you get a dial tone on the line using a phone at the same location?

Far too many unknowns in that question.
Firstly, you can't expect to connect the PC exactly as you did to a broadband connection and secondly, you need to provide more information about the modem. Right-click on it and select properties.
Do you have ISDN by any chance?
