Shamrock Rovers manager Roddy Collins is all set to unveil three new signings after Trinidadian international midfielder Derek Phillips, former Dublin City and Kildare County playmaker Cathal O’Connor and ex-Middlesbrough star Jason Gavin all trained with the club this week.
Collins is eager to add to his panel ahead of the start of the eircom League season next month, and has racked up the miles in England in search of suitable talent.
That has unearthed Will McDonagh, who previously worked under Collins at Carlisle United, and Pat McCourt, the talented Northern Ireland under-21 winger snapped up from Rochdale.
The former Bohemians boss is set to add to his options by the end of the week, with Gavin, the Dubliner who is unsettled at Bradford City, O’Connor and Phillips all ready to sign on.
And Collins is under no illusions that former Middlesbrough defender Gavin will be one of the best acquisitions by any club during the close-season.
He told the Irish Daily Mirror: “Jason will be one of the best centre-backs in the League.”
