Absolutely remarkable career but 1000 games is just unbelievable. Coupled with 168 caps if he plays tonight!

Amazing ok when you consider that the likes of Brad Friedel who played until he was 145 only amassed around 600. However, Gigi doesn't seem to have much business sense:

How did it safeguard the livelihoods if it went up in smoke ?

The money went up in smoke. He saved the jobs but made no profit.

The 1000 games includes the 168 caps, though that's a record in itself.

Only conceded 779 goals in those 1000 games, which is remarkable.

Maybe "coupled with" was the wrong term, but yes, I knew they were included. You're as bad as geysir!

175 caps and kept a clean sheet but still Italy don't make it to the finals for the first time in 60 years. Football can be very harsh at times.

Tell us about it :( Not too much sympathy for Italy. Sweden did an Italy on them. Scored one and then protected it superbly. Imagine qualifying for 15 World Cups in a row. Stuff we can only dream about.

Sergio Ramos' numbers are worth keeping an eye on I think.

593 club appearances according to Wikipedia with another 149 caps for Spain = 742.

He only turns 32 in March so could have a few seasons left in him yet.

He's won everything worth winning multiple times (with the exception of the World Cup, which he has only won once so far!).

He has also scored 85 career goals - not bad for a defender. He'll surely break the 100 mark. The likes of Fernando Hierro and Ronald Koeman would have scored a lot more, but they used take a lot of penalties/free kicks.
