Very sad news. Some small solace may be drawn from the fact that he lived his dream and did so right until the end. My condolences to all involved with Derry, but above all to his family. Rest in peace.

For all the good that it'll do, I felt like this was the only thing I should draw today... RIP, Ryan, the Derry City community have been put through an awful lot lately...

Fair play AV!
There can't have been many that were as proud and as honoured to wear the Derry City shirt as Ryan McBride.
You seem to have captured that perfectly.
Outstanding piece of work as always.

There's been an online fundraiser set up here for anyone who'd like to donate to help the McBride family cover the cost of Ryan's funeral: https://www.gofundme.com/ryan-mcbride
This has already reached the five thousand pound mark. What a response.

Set to hit £6,500 soon. Amazing response and another big donation from James McClean in the last few minutes.

Lovely piece on MNS about him too.
Terrible news this. Always a player any fan would want in their team.

It's weird to think that just over a week ago I was watching this man score the winner against us, thinking could we sign him next year, he was Derry through and through though so that never would have happened, but if anything that just increased my respect for the man. RIP Ryan you'll be missed by everyone associated with football in Ireland

There was a very good piece in Dermot Keelys column today in the Sun.Just before he joined Dundalk he played against Brian McConville elder brother of Tommy and he dropped dead at age 35 just after he played a game for St Pats Athletic.

Brian McConville had been suffering from what was just described as a cold or virus and pushed on through regardless.

Some footage from the funeral today compiled by RTÉ/Soccer Republic featuring audio of a moving poem recited by Kenny Shiels playing over the imagery: https://www.facebook.com/SoccRepublic/videos/1089901434448937/

Listening to that poem being recited would draw tears from a stone. The turnout at the funeral and the glowing tributes paid really outline the great guy Ryan was and how much of a loss he will be to his family, football club and community.
RIP Ryan McBride.

Everyone should also follow @AuctionForRyan on twitter. All for a great cause by the @TheMoanyone. And it was a brilliant idea. Great to see the LOI united during these tough times.
Do Derry have any plans to retire the number 5? Would be a great gesture.

Brilliant by Waterford on Saturday last night. David McDaid and Patrick McClean led the teams out onto the pitch wearing Derry McBride 5 jerseys. For the minute silence both jersey were placed in the middle of the centre circle showing the front and back of the jswrys. The club had a book of condolences open on the night. The players wore black arm bands as a mark of respect. There was also around of applause on the fifth minute https://twitter.com/daltorus/status/845700487819280387
Some pictures of the tribute https://www.facebook.com/WaterfordFCofficial/posts/1370967579645270
And Irish international James McClean and he's wife were also guests of the club at the game.

I'd really rather we didn't. I find retiring numbers cheap and gimmicky. Would much rather have a proper memorial in the new Brandywell. Something like that quote of his about dreaming of playing for Derry on the wall of the tunnel would be great.

Ah Jaysus, just heard Shiels reading that poem for the first time with his voice breaking. Heartbreaking stuff.

I agree, there should be a real pride in getting to wear the No. 5 shirt in a lasting tribute to Ryan McBride. Dont retire it but maybe in the days of squad numbers make it the captains shirt and the captain should always know the reason why they are given No 5.

I heard the recording of Shiels reading this poem at the mass, played at the end of Soccer Republic. Beautiful piece and the emotion is his voice really got me choked up. It's been a week to forget but also to always remember.

This was the poem read by Kenny Shiels at Ryan's funeral mass.
Advice: It's pretty heartbreaking so don't play until you're ok.
