Technically City and Derry weren't relegated and any clubs who have never been promoted but yeah, Pats and Bohs are the only two to never play in the First Division.

That's absolutely bull**** El P, and I knew this would crop up. Both Cork City and Derry City were quite rightly 'removed' from the PD and placed in the FD for valid reasons. The fact remains, in season 2010, both plied their trade in the FD.

Weren't both new clubs so technically they weren't removed from the premier just starting as new clubs should in the first.

Wasn't Derry City expelled from the league and a new club then started in the first division?

Not sure about Cork as their fans always claim that the club is the same one that was formed in 1984.

We've been over so many times over the years. I'm pretty sure you know the story and are just looking for a reaction. We all know what happened, and why it is claimed to be the same club. Although, with the gangsters that had been involved since 1984, I'm not sure that's really a good thing.

I'm also not sure why a Limerick fan really cares enough to comment. Your fans on here are turning into what Waterford used to be like. It's not a real rivalry.

For my own part I just don't like the way your club conducts itself. cork fall under the bohs umbrella on my spectrum of disliked clubs in that regard.

Limerick won't have any rivals until such a time as pike bite the bullet and step up.

I know you're all on the edge of your seats so Pats fans, UCD fan, Longford fans, Derry fans, I officially have nothing against your clubs. :good:

It's a tough one to predict this year.

At first glance cork don't look much stronger to me.

But I've always carried a sneaking suspicion that brian gartland is a bow legged horse in a man costume of a centre half so that theory will get tested this year.

shamrock look decent but Stephen Bradley football manager could still go either way. His performance at home to cork in one of the televised games last season had the distinction of being as embarrassing as rtes regular programming.

Logic tells me Derry shouldn't do as well playing home games in buncrana.

Pats continue the gradual downgrading of their squad.

Bray look to have some decent players. But does anyone care? Will those players care? We'll see.

I know nothing about sligo except that Mick Leahy alledgedly starts. Which if true means they're not very good.

drogheda, galway, harps and bohs are all dog****.

We played 2 seasons in the first, but we weren't relegated. We finished 3rd in 2009. Derry I think were 4th. Bohs and Pats have never played in the first, thats an undeniable fact.

I think that is correct. That Cork City ceased to exist and a new club with a different name started from scratch in the first division.

This is in danger of sliding off-topic, so let's wrap it up?

Technically City and Derry weren't relegated ...
Correct.

Pats and Bohs are the only two to never play in the First Division.
Correct.

Bohs were never relegated but often re-elected.
Correct, but they came close: Bohemians survived the Promotion/Relegation Play-off against Cobh Ramblers (7-0, two legs) in 1998/9.
They finished bottom nine times in the single division era: 1944/45, 1947/8, 1948/9, 1949/50, 1952/3, 1962/3, 1963/4, 1967/8 & 1968/9.
Pats never finished lower than second last in that period, but that would have meant (at best) a play-off in the 2-division era: 1953/4, 1962/3 and 1969/70.

Nothing to do with any perceived rivalry or anything but the reason it was claimed its the same club is cos Cork fans are full of s**t tbh.And on the rivalry thing I see far more of Cork fans going on about us thinking it is one than any Limerick fans actually talking about it.Imo Cork FORAS that turned into this version of Cork City are a new club its just that simple no trying for reactions no supposed rivalry its not as if ye being a new club is something I could even slag ye off about I'm a Limerick fan for god sake.

As for the why a Limerick fan cares enough to comment nonsense, its a forum discussion is kind of the whole point of being on here.

and on the rivalry thing I see far more of Cork fans going on about us thinking it is one than any Limerick fans actually talking about it.

They have a desperate need to create "rivalries" where they can perceive themselves as the bigger brother.

The reason for this is the absolutely crippling inferiority complex they possess when it comes to all things Dublin. For a catchment area their size they are utter failures. And consistent failures at that. This is down to their mind set.

We are also (much bigger, hilarious) failures (albeit with a catchment area a quarter of the size) We have a bit of fun with it. They wake up in cold sweats. Again, it's a state of mind.

I think their club and the way they run it is absolutely ****in displicable but I don't consider them rivals. I'll be far more concerned about the team's around us.

Enjoying the semantic battle over relegation here

a : to assign to a place of insignificance or of oblivion : put out of sight or mind
b : to assign to an appropriate place or situation on the basis of classification or appraisal
c : to submit to someone or something for appropriate action : delegate
d : to transfer (a sports team) to a lower ranking division

By definitions a, b and d (and 'a' could be written specifically about the First Division) it look like Shels 2006 and the like were relegated.

One of the craziest things about that 2009 season, and from Dundalk's angle there were many under Sean Connor's sole season in charge, we managed to finish 5th and 'secured' the final EL spot.

After coming a point ahead of Sligo, who would have taken the Euro spot if they had managed to beat a Dundalk team who finished with 8 men

Despite having three men sent off in a crazy 17-minute spell, Dundalk held on for a memorable point as, resembling the Alamo, they somehow kept Sligo Rovers at bay to secure a valuable 2-2 draw at Oriel Park on Friday night. Strikes from Michael McGowan and Chris Turner, from the penalty spot, saw the Lilywhites recover from Rafael Cretaro’s 27th-minute opener to lead early in the second half, before three red cards and a penalty to Sligo almost saw a walkout from the hosts.

The Sean Connor season at Dundalk was many things - but it was never dull or boring!
