Its very easy to dismiss this from the outside looking in. When you know what is really going on and the history of certain players and the guy who is "investing" the money then maybe yer opinions would change on this. This has been well researched since late January/early February. This isn't just a spur of the moment thing after 1 or 2 bad games.
Regardless of how well-researched it is, I think for dahamsta's sake you should keep your powder dry until you're in a position to present your research.

I agree.

The fact that people are willing to give credence to stuff on the internet that is conjecture is reckless. Repeating libel isn't reportage: it's libel.

Ok my "argument" is based on fact. These lads were investigated for corruption and match fixing. Im saying im not stating that they did fix games but that they were highly suspected of it and are on black lists in certain countries. And a good few of them randomly get landed in Athlone and the 2 guys running the show have been investigated for corruption before. Is that better for you?

But anyways ok, i won't post anything about the subject here anymore.

For me personally the most incredible thing about this whole situation is the foresight the athlone fans had to begin their boycott nearly a full decade before this regime took over.

And we've gone through our second manager of the season. Club gets his name wrong in their own statement.

Laughing stock of the league

I don't think too many LOI fans are laughing at you.

Everyone who supports a team in our league (bar Cabo) has probably seen their own club in a shambles at one stage or another, and are wary that their own club could go tits up again v quickly with a bit of bad luck, so ppl aren't too quick to laugh at Athlone (apart from Longford lads maybe).

Had Colin Fortune left the club after being demoted in favour of Monsanto? If not, they could reinstate him, at least as a caretaker. But I guess that would mean admitting that it was the wrong decision to demote him in the first place, so it's unlikely to happen.

No, the best we can do is a wry smile these days. It'd be a bit "tuppence ha'penny looking down on tuppence" as my father likes to say.

Yeah, and it all can turn around remarkably quickly. Case in point: how long has it been since Dundalk were on the brink? Five years? Athlone will come around. Collins, as much as I dislike him a multitude of reasons, has prior experience getting a team out of the First Division (I'd get rid of him fast after that though).

Can't see Roddy working with the investors players. And they will not be got rid of. He would have murders with the foreign lads within a week.

On the dundalk note. Completely different circumstances. Life long fans, myself included now have a hatred for the club it has become all because of the chairman and Michael o Connor. I went home and away every single week for 20 odd years and now I haven't been to a game since May 2016. That's how bad it has got. If people really knew what has went on. They have got away with so much

There were plenty of odd goings on at Dundalk too that drove the club to the brink rather than say paying unsustainable wages or lack of support. The fundraising that was done wasnt blindly handed over and some extremely dedicated people that persisted via the supporters trust eventually convinced a local businessman that it may not be the best thing to stubbornly refuse to allow solutions to the problems rather than the do as i say or want or else.

What is the set-up at ATFC in terms of investors say, do they have an agenda like trying to churn out young lads in hope of selling on, is it a play thing, is it hoping to leverage other ideas not disimilar to suggestions on Bray's investment and the Carlisle Grounds even with the recent ground development, who are the investors and where from. Where is the Italian (or Portuguese is seems) connection or reason for bringing in foreign players assuming legitimate reasons. Maybe this is in other threads but it would be great if one of you Athlone lads would give a quick idea of the lie of the land.

If Roddy does get the job can we do a prediction of his cliches and who he will bring to the club if allowed. How many times has the last chance saloon been said. In fairness though he was doing a decent job before his head was turned by the job he always wanted.

It appears the investor has welshed on the deal with Roddy.
It was agreed last week but has now been pulled and won't happen.
I don't exactly know why, but perhaps this interview from some years back may explain it.

Interesting piece in the New York Times by Rory Smith on someone who is a big influence on Portuguese coaching. Any feedback on the methods used by the guy at Athlone? would it be good if there was some use made of these ideas in Irish soccer?

Lights go out, Roddy comes up behind the Portuguese fella and smashes him with a steel chair. Looking forward to it
