anyone got any comments to make about their choice of barbers?

as a young fella always went to a gaa barber.
pride of place on the wall was a team photo of the great meath team of the late 80's.

then i went to a soccer barber an english fella just landed this side of the water. a leeds fan and pride of place on his wall was a photo of the leeds team from a few years back before they nosedived into the first div

yesterday i went to what could only be described as a rugby barber.
all the chat in the place was about the state of the aib league and da pros and cons of professionalism. da man beside me was a former player (12 years amateur and 4 years as a pro) there was also great chat about a 'beast' of a man round the corner who played a bit in his native south africa and is now physio to half the irish team.

then theres the 4th and last type of barber.
the ones where the only type of balls the fella cuttin ur hair is interested in always cum in pairs and are permanantly attached to the top of a pair of posts.

Number 3 all over with my own Remington clippers that I keep in the mother's house, get the mammy to check it over to see if I missed anything. Barbers once or twice a year to tidy up the tricky bits. Went just last week in fact, De Barber's in Douglas. No talking, no examining the decor, in and out in five minutes. :)

Average short back and sides. Not the same as back in the days when the barber done it. Freshly shaved, 8 eye cherry docs and away you go :D

I lived in Brooklyn, New York for a while and there's not too many white dudes there so my barber was one of those black barbers like in Coming To America, where all the old guys sit around talking. I was probably their only white customer and they used love talking to me about Ireland.

Visited the same barber in the English village I grew up in from the age of 7 until I was 32, when he retired and went back to his native Italy. Great, old fashioned barbers, where they would have pictures of fabulous 1970's haircuts on the wall, even though it was the 90's, and where they would actually have 'something for the weekend'. It was the only place that would sell Johnny's to teenage boys, no questions asked, so I was told by more amourously adventurous school friends.

Now live in a nearby English village, and go to the local barber there once a month, run by two blokes who went to the same school as me. Grade4 back and sides, trim the fringe and a bit off the top, cheers. They've got an England shirt on the wall, signed by Geoff Hurst.

I'm also a DIY merchant, who goes to the barbers every third or fourth time as a 'treat'
No matter how long it's been, I walk in and the bloke says 'One and a half allover, isn't it?'

Used to use Trinity Barber in dub city centre for a while (easy to get to & open sunday) but p!ssed me off by doing 10min quick cut & i haven't been back since.

Local barber in the 'burbs here has turkish guy who barely had a word of english before so almost impossible to discribe most basic instructions.

i'm afraid of hairdressers. true story. if they've a scissors in one hand and a razor in the other, they should be fcuking concentrating on what they're doing, noting complaining about the weather or asking where the fcuk i'm going on holidays

€15 in Wilton barbers.

Usually €8 in the one on College Road. Its a tiny place, the entire buiilding consists of one room about the size of a Punto.

Local barber here in Clondalkin, Robbie's Barbers on Tower Road, excellent barber, takes his time, plenty of newspapers to read, TV and DVD player available and if you are so inclined he has a PS2 and assorted games to keep you happy while in the queue and still only €10 a cut.

Traditionally on Christmas Eve Robbie gets a stock of beer in, regulars bring along guitars etc for a good session while waiting for the crimbo cut.

The joy of long hair is that it removes the need for a barber. :D Every six months or so I just get somebody to trim it. I had two willing trimmers in a girl that I lived with and my exs mum. Now that I've moved and not with the girl anymore I suppose I'll have to find sombody else. Any volunteers? :D

Do it yourself.
There are two categories for DIY haircutting:

1. The one I find myself in at the moment. Short hair. Buy a razor, stick in whatever blade no. you require, and away you go.

2. The one I found myself in in my student days. Longer hair. Stand mirror on the ground behind you. Legs apart, bend over, so you see yourself upside-down in the mirror. With a scissors, cut the longest bits hanging down, et voila! Toni & Guy me hole!

What really gets me about the barbers I go to here in Reading is that half the guys bring the missus along with them.
They pile in with all their shopping and take up all the seats.
There's nothing like the traditional barber shop where no women dared to venture. Is there nothing sacred anymore!?

There's a woman who works in my barbers in Reading. I wouldn't let her near my hair but she does add to the scenery. ;)

I use two, one in Dublin which is at the end of Mary St on the corner with Capel St. Its got a lot of boxing memorabilla on the walls, and is a good old-fashioned barbers.

I use Pat Stapletons in O'Connell St in Limerick if I need a haircut when at home, but I go there mainly for the hot-towel shaves when hung-over....Top Quality. ;)

Most I've paid is €14, which is the place I go now. It's around the corner from work so convenient, and any of the cheaper places I'd have to pay to park which would kinda defeat the purpose... Nice young lady barbers, so worth a couple of quid extra anyway...
