Deadline is a week Wednesday.
Looking like a manager will be appointed before the final two games of the season against Longford and Dundalk. Important that whoever comes in has a chance to consider who he wants to keep and make a start on building for 2017.
Clubs doing their business earlier and earlier these days. It was important that the board made the decision now, rather than later in the year, if they were planning on doing anything.

Could suit Martin Russell well if rumours here are true about his departure.

He was in for the Rovers job according to de papers and if your commuting from Eastern Europe there isn't much difference between Dublin and Galway.
Ryanair would probably fly into Galway and call it Dublin/Galway

Sean McCaffrey must be due another shot at the big time. Or a glorious return for Sean Connor.

Shoddy Roddy Collins ?
Its the job he always wanted!!
A important appointment by Galway now as there is good potential at ED Park with some security in consolidating a place in the Premier Division - if they can push on next season! Barraclough back west?

Don O Riordan is back in Galway. Johnny Glynn an obvious candidate also.

I would give serious consideration for Ollie Horgan, but if Kenny Shields was interested I would go for him. Crucial appointment this as I suppose the new guy will be expected to bring in 5/6 new players and improve what is already there.

Why would Kenny Shields be interested? Galway aren't anywhere near as big a club as Derry. Relatively large city but Galway have never achieved anything in the league. I looked this up and may have posted it here in the Tommy Dunne thread but Galway United/Rovers have finished higher than 8th in the Premier Division 5 times in their history, and the last time was in 1994. Derry have been a semi consistent title challenger since entering the league and are always in the hunt for cups.

Roddy's just left Waterford. It's on.

So Shields wouldn't be interested so. The two names I have mentioned are in managers jobs, is the record better to go for an out-of-work person in the LoI? The only Galway manager who was "poached" from us is Jeff Kenna, by St Pats and when I spend some time in Sligo Séan Connor was headhunted by Bohs, but that is just a small sample. Looking back Jim McLoughlin from Dundalk to Shamrock R must qualify as a success, although they lost Milltown during it.

And that should be enough of a lesson for anybody.

Was in China, back in Galway for the past few years. Lives in the north of the county, manages Galway WFC, made the final 3 (along with Johnny Glynn) when club was looking to appoint a manager 3 years ago

Johnny Glynn or Paul Doolin for me. Definitely would be interested in Martin Russell too but I thought he was lined up for Rovers.

Johnny Glynn should be a shoo-in for that job.
