Down 1-0 already, very soft goal if nicely worked from a German point of view. Goalscorer basically had a free shot from around the penalty spot after losing Collins (I think it was).

Germany made five changes to the side that started the previous match, not sure how many were enforced so nothing too radical anyway.

They have a guy called Maurice Malone up front... surely one for the eligibility thread maybe. :)

Jaysus... 2-0... great strike from the edge of the penalty box but again way too much space.

We had actually started pretty well, Connolly getting on a lot of ball early on.

Bosnia-Herzegovina are drawing 0-0 with Serbia. A 1-0 Bosnia win would see us through, but it looks like it's all Serbia

My dad would say "that'd be a good one to win".

What kind of criteria are they using? A 1-0 for Bosnia would mean that themselves, ourselves and Serbia are all tied exactly on goals scored, goal difference and points. You'd think Serbia would surely have the edge in that scenario having lost by the least amount of goals to Germany (as things stand)?

No ourselves and Bosnia would have 2 goals scored and conceded if you match the 3 results - and we beat Bosnia.

Whatever. Come on Bosnia :p

Oh yeah, had 2-1 instead of 1-0 in my head for Serbia's win against us.

Aaron Connolly booked for simulation inside the German box. It did look like he stuck his leg out looking for "contact", in fairness.

Some dreadful goals. Don't want to sound too harsh on a young fella but the Collins chap looks all at sea.

The lack of competitiveness is ominous and certainly doesn't bode well for the future. If this game is anything to go by, it seems we'll still be lagging well behind Europe's elite sides in years to come.

DeLorean

I don't think Germany will ever be our benchmark to be fair, we should have beaten Serbia from what I saw and did beat Bosnia so not a bad showing overall really. Disappointing to bow out like this though.

Six nil - still if Bosnia score we play England in the QF probably.

Clearly, our lads were so confident in Bosnia beating Serbia that they were saving themselves for the quarter-final against England and had absolutely no need to waste their energies trying in this game.

Ah, nevermind...

An amazing conclusion. Germany top Group D having scored 15 goals, the most ever in an UEFA men's national-team finals group. But Ireland are also through as Bosnia and Herzegovina scored late to beat Serbia 1-0. The three teams on three points are split on head-to-head with all having three points against each other and equal goal difference. Ireland and Bosnia and Herzegovina have two goals each to Serbia's one - and as Ireland beat Bosnia and Herzegovina, they join Germany in Saturday's quarter-finals.

England are playing Netherlands at 15:00. They need a draw to top the group and secure a quarter final against us on Saturday. Time yet to be decided it seems.

From what I can see, no matter who qualifies for the QFs, Ireland have no chance of playing in the U17 World Cup Playoff for the 2 best QF losers.
Although we can of course qualify by winning our QF (writing off our chances already subconsciously)

The fifth European team to participate in the FIFA U-17 World Cup is decided in a single-leg knockout match between the two best quarter-finalists not progressing to the semi-finals. They are determined in application of the following criteria, in the order given:

a. higher position in their group on completion of the group stage; (2nd)
b. higher number of points in the group stage; (3, There are 2 teams on 6)

I see from Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_UEFA_European_Under-17_Championship#Bracket) that our kick off time on Saturday will be either 11:00 or 16:45.

We'll know our semi final opponents by then also, either Hungary or Turkey. :)

We shouldn't get too complacent as the final has "potential banana-skin" written all over it; it's looking like we'll be up against one of Germany, Spain, France or England/Holland.

Group C - the lady luck group.

B&H coach "We were unfortunate ..... luck was on Ireland's side."
Serbia coach "Luck was not on our side, we were in the next round until the last minute of the match."

A historic achievement for the doughty Faroe Islands to make it to these finals, they managed to score one goal, albeit an own goal.

There was an underage tournament a few years ago where we went out in similar circumstances - a goal scored in another game in injury time.
Can't remember which one, but I guess this is karma for it.

Still no sign of our match being televised on either of the two British Eurosports or the German version. The three other quarter finals are all being shown live.

UEFA are experimenting with a new 'ABBA' penalty system for this tournament, along with the women's version, assuming the need arises obviously.

New format, same result. Germany beat Norway on penalties (http://www.uefa.com/womensunder17/season=2017/matches/round=2000761/match=2022694/postmatch/index.html) in the women's semi final despite missing their first three penalties. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/39798344

Aye, it's odd that. According to LiveOnSat, our game is the only game of the four quarter finals that won't be broadcast anywhere: http://liveonsat.com/los.soc_int_U_all.php

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc12/poguemahone85/Capture_zpsryyxi0or.png

LiveOnSat have obviously mixed their info up or something as well as they appear to think the match on Eurosport 1 tomorrow at 16:45 will be between England and Bosnia & Herzegovina. The match kicking off at that time is between Germany and the Netherlands. And obviously B&H didn't make it through either considering we finished ahead of them!

We have a process with the players whether we win, draw or lose matches. We’ll always look back to look forward. Our message to the players has been, the group stages was about three games. We performed very well in two games and we weren’t at our standards for the third game. The players have had the opportunity to look back at certain stages of that game, speak about it and then we got out on the pitch this morning and had a very good session. Everyone realises now we are in a different competition, it’s knockout now and it’s a derby game for us.

England are a high-quality team. They are very strong at the back, have very good ball-playing midfielders and their big players are their forwards where they have a lot of creativity, pace and power. We will have learned a lot from the last game, what we need to do better, and if the players do that earlier tomorrow we’ll be fine. The main thing is that our players learn. This is about their future. They are in a quarter-final of a European Championships, it’s the furthest we’ve come in 20 years and they are getting loads of experience from it. That can only be good for our players going forward up to 18s, 19s, and U21s.
