Galway United have parted company with manager Tommy Dunne in the aftermath of Tuesday night's 5-3 defeat at the hands of Cork City.

The Comer sponsorship is certainly substantial by LOI standards, but not sure pushing for Europe realistic, top 6 would probably be the height of it realistically and they are only four points off that!

Seems a bit mad getting rid of Tommy. Appeared to be doing a good job from what I can see. Got us a mid table finish our first year back up but got the sack for not kicking on the next year. Surely another mid table with Galway would've been seen as a good achievement? hopefully he's not out of management for too long

Yes.

Results have been horrendous in the last few months. It's been relegation form since mid season and the players who left in June and July left because of the manager. Not travel.

If a club has decided on a change of manager, before the season ends makes perfect sense. It gives an opportunity to have a new man in place before current player contracts expire

We certainly had a chance before collapsing completely by only winning 4 in 21. The loss of John Sullivan was a huge factor also. The team clearly were not motivated for a long time and there were reasons other than them not being arsed.

This is the best time if you are thinking of sacking him. You need to give the new man a chance. He needs to see the players in action properly if possible and players need to see how is being appointed.

Sacking him any later than this handicaps the new manager greatly imo.

I'd suggest Waterford should consider appointing Tommy Dunne as manager, he could be the perfect person to resurrect a club, just look at his work at Cork City where he is admired for his influence and organisation, while he also helped establish Galway as a stable Premier club. Give him the time to lay the right structures for the club and he seems to be able to get things done.

He may not have brought these clubs to the next level as demanded by the so called experts behind the scenes at these clubs but he definitely established the foundations needed to create or progress to success.

He is obviously there until the manager is appointed. Going on what the deadline for applications was, I'd say it's a good chance whoever is appointent will be in place before we play the last game of the season.

It's important that players see who has been appointed as soon as possible, so work on signing lads back up can start asap. We got most of our business done early enough last year, but teams are doing it early and earlier. Not appointing a new man fairly quickly, within reason, would only hurt us.

Given that player power played a role in getting him out, I wouldn't worry too much about retaining them or keeping them happy TBH. What's to say the next time things aren't good they won't spit the dummy again?

You're oversimplifying the situation and suggesting the baby be thrown out with the bathwater.

The situation happened because of a number of things.
