Kinsella got a few starts early on but has been a sub more often. He looks talented but he's small, very technical.

Spinning these posts into their own thread. Just trying something new for the underage tournaments - a thread per tournament that I'll move to the archive folder when the team is knocked out. Better than having one monolithic thread for each age group that goes on for years

Thanks Tets. 1-0 up at Albania. Good start if they continue in this fashion. With Gibraltar in the group if they win today, they will essentially be through.

Finishes 1-0 with Ireland hitting the bar twice, and pushing late on too. Great start.

Super. The whole group is being played in Albania, do I have that correct? If so, that was a pretty big disadvantage so a great win.

Par for the course once you go below U-21 level I think - one country hosts all the matches over the space of a week or so.

Actually, an even bigger win given that the other two teams are Germany (should lose) and Gibraltar (should win) - so this match was almost a play-off for second place, with the top two progressing.

Oh yeah, I'm not questioning the system a such, just not ideal for us that what looks like our most direct rival playing all of their matches at home. In theory, we'd have been better off if it was held in Germany or Gibraltar, but anyway it's all good now barring a disaster.

Beat Gibraltar 5-0 earlier: http://www.uefa.com/under19/season=2017/matches/round=2000775/match=2019130/index.html

Lost 4-0, conceded two penalties and had a player sent off. Probably for the best that we'd already qualified for the Elite round
The draw for the next stage is on December 13th. Mark your calendars.

In spite of the defeat against Germany, this was a heartening couple of games for our U-18s where they showed they could be competitive against two major footballing powers. I've said elsewhere that I reckon there's about 25-30 young players who could be staking a claim for a place in the senior squad by the time Euro 2020 qualifiers roll around and that estimation didn't include any players at this level. So hopefully a decent number of this group can push on in their careers and can put themselves in the frame shortly afterwards.

FFS Sam, can you keep your optimism to yourself. A pessimistic and negative attitude is what is expected of all good Irish fans if you read some of the posts on this site !

Sorry about that...let's see if I can do it: Wow, we're playing terrible this campaign and our six-point lead over Austria is merely a mirage that will disappear when Glenn Whelan returns from injury and our incompetent management team drops Wes Hoolahan, who is our only player capable of passing a ball - how about that for starters?

To be fair when you see how they decide the coefficients for the elite stage, there's nothing fishy at all. We were just very unlucky.

Mohan names Ireland U19 squad for La Manga tournamenthttp://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/mohan-names-ireland-u19-squad-for-la-manga-tournament

REPUBLIC of Ireland U19 Head Coach Tom Mohan has named his squad for an invitational tournament in La Manga next week.

3rd Feb 2017

The Irish will face Norway, Portugal and Slovakia in three games which will provide useful preparation for the UEFA U19 Championships Elite Qualifying Round in March.
Mohan's side travel to Belgium for the Elite Phase next month to meet the hosts, Italy and Sweden with only one spot available for the finals in Georgia this summer.
"This is another good opportunity for us to get the players together and help our preparations for the UEFA Elite Phase in March," said Mohan.
"A couple of players were unavailable due to club commitments but we've brought in some players who've done well recently and it's a chance to stake their claim for involvement in the Elite Phase.
"We held a home-based assessment game against the ETB squad prior to Christmas and some of those players have earned their place in this squad. We have watched them in pre-season games and it will be good to bring them in with the other players.
"The games we'll play will all be good tests and the tournament format will also be very beneficial ahead of what's a testing Elite Phase. This is a good group of players and we're looking forward to working with them in Spain."

I'm not having a go at liamoo specifically here, but why is it okay for people to talk about Josh Barrett switching to England when there is nothing to support it, but when I quote a line from a Kieran O'Hara article comments are deleted because one poster throws a hissyfit?
