The French used grapes, Russians fermented potatoes, Koreans put ginseng in their drink and Mexicans distilled cactus plants to make fiery tequila.

Now China is introducing fish wine.

Sun Keman, an entrepreneur in the northeastern port city of Dalian, has formed the Dalian Fisherman's Song Maritime Biological Brewery, with a plan to use his background in the fishing industry to make fish into wine.

Incidently, the alcohol for Boru Irish Vodka and Clontarf Whiskey is distilled from milk.

But how about the alcohol in Baileys (other than the whiskey) or indeed Smirnoff which I've been told by a Gilbeys employee is also from milk: fermented and distilled by Carbery Milk Products.

Makes you wonder alright with Budweiser ingredients including rice.

Wasnt there some story that those Smernoff Ice "vodka" drinks actually had no vodka in them at all but were more similar to beer

Rice is probably the only drinkable ingredient in Budweiser.

Not anymore, as far as I know.
The deal expired after Express Dairies sold Carbery Milk Products to the West Cork Co-op's, Bandon, Barryroe, Drinagh and Lisavard. Express Dairies were part of Grand Metropolitan who also owned Gilbeys.
Carbery are significant shareholders in the company which produces Boru and Clontarf. They were the first company in the world to produce alcohol from milk on a commercial scale. Now why doesn't that surprise me about an Irish company!? :D The alcohol is produced from lactose which is the sugar in milk and it's not so outrageous when you think of it. Now making alcohol from potatoes on the other hand.

if i remember my school geography (only in ireland do they teach these sort of things in geography class!) baileys was concocted from the previously useless by products of milk production or some dairy business thingamagig

it was kinda presented to us as some sort of ingenious use of natural resources!

Don't be ridiculous, surely that would not be possible! :)

Then again, those Kerry folk are ingenious :p

Pretty much all parts of the milk are utilised by Carbery Milk Products (http://www.carbery.com/) and believe me, it is ingenious!
Cheese.
Whey Butter.
Whey Protein Products.
Alcohol.
