Good point, and one that can be developed on; Fairview's squad, as I've said before, is massively unbalanced in general.

Ultra-heavy on attacking midfielders, not so much on players to give them licence to do their thing.

Take Craig Madigan's ongoing injury problems - often this season, in his absence, the club have been forced to play an 8 and a 10, or on at least one disastrous occasion two number 10s, in central midfield.

John Mullane's GAA related absences also left them struggling massively at centre-back on occasion, despite the fact that everyone and their dogs were aware of Brian Fitzgerald and Paul Danaher's respective fitness statuses pre-season.

There's only so long you can get away with patching up those holes that should have been filled, and three defeats from their last four in all competitions indicates that the patchwork ain't holding anymore.

For the money the management are been paid up in Fairview results of late haven't been good enough
Any chance of a podcast with POD Alan, would love to hear the mans thoughts

Fairview left it behind them Sunday with some dreadful finishing along with some inspired goalkeeping, should have been out of sight.

Agree about the imbalances in the squad, it's ok saying they should have been addressed but it's not easy to pull players out of thin air, it's a small sample size of players playing locally and for all we know they attempted to sign players to balance things up but couldn't get them in. That would be a good question for the podcast!! Get it on!!

if the Weds column is back on good luck to the lad,he deserves a break, the conduct of some people on here regarding that episode was deplorable.on a more important topic some tasty ties in the next round......our premier league champions pitted v the Aul and Fai champions...could be epic.

Well, three men were given the job to be fair!

Certainly on a really wretched run of results now, last week's Munster Junior Cup win over Ballynanty excepted.

Calla certainly came up trumps with the goalkeeper switch! Has also been rewarded for sticking with the 3-4-2-1 system despite an injury crisis at centre-back.

To give credit to those over the B team, both this season and last, he's been massively helped by great support from that side of the club too. Good to see.

Carrick Utd 4 Athenry 0
Powerful performance from Carrick yesterday after a nervous start. Jack Doherty's hattrick was sublime. He has now scored in every round and has 9 goals in competition so far.

What are Janesboro like these days lads? Dingle Bay Rovers had a great win down in Clonmel in the last round, I imagine Janesboro will be a step up again?
Killarney Celtic won't fear going to Newmarket either.

6th Round Result
River Valley Rangers 0 Carrick 1 AET

Match report for Carrick Facebook page
Jack Doherty put Carrick into the 7th Round of the FAI Junior Cup with a fine finish 4 minutes from the end of extra time to great scenes of great celebration in Dublin today.... Carrick started brightly and could have went ahead after 5 mins when Jack went through 1 on 1 with the keeper but the RVR's shotstopper coming out on top with a fine save a theme that would repeated through out.
The home side got to grips afterwards and put Carrick under a lot of pressure without creating any real chances. Carrick finished the half strongly but again created little.
The 2nd half was more of the same with Carrick piling on the pressure from free kicks and corners but with no luck. Jack Doherty created 2 chances shooting from distance both were expertly saved by the RVR's net minder who was in inspired form.
Carrick felt they had the breakthrough late on when a Stephen Hahessy corner was flicked goal bound by John James Keyes. The ball trickled to the net as Jack Doherty was bundled to the ground on the line. As the players celebrated, the linesman raised his flag to inexplicably rule out the goal for an infringement only he saw. It was looking like one of those days, as chances went a begging.
Extra time was a tense affair with neither side creating any chances until 4 minutes from time when veteran Keith Walsh bust onto a loose ball in midfield and strode forward with purpose and expertly slipping Jack down the right who then finished with style to send the hoops into the last 16.
All at the club would like to congratulate Adrian his management team and squad and would wish Rivervalley Rangers all the best in the future.

Very disappointing result for janesboro,if they got through and got a bit of luck in the draw could of been in the aviva in may
Is richie mullins cup tied? Steven bradley big loss for them
Clarke second yellow for descent was it?
need a big overhaul in the centre of there defence, there so poor there
i saw bradley play there a few times this year, badly need him in the middle, super super player
great to see waters back
the players must be extremely disappointed considering they were down to 10 men for the bones of 50 mins including ET
Any report on the game AOB?
i enjoyed ur commentary by the way, super stuff, keep up the good work

AlanOB

Appreciate your praise for the commentary, but I was many, many leagues better on Monday night with my partner Noel O'Connor restored to my side, and a better match to talk about. Did my best though, and it was good experience for me to try it alone.

No report on the game, as I had to be up very early to go to Kilmallock the following day. But there is analysis of it in today's Leader column. Report on Kilmallock game is here (https://limerickdl.wordpress.com/2017/03/12/evergreen-fc-1-0-kilmallock-united-drennan-fires-kilkenny-side-into-last-four/).

Bradley was indeed a huge loss, and was always going to be. Mullins was simply not picked. Clarke's second yellow was indeed for dissent -- the first was for simulation earlier in the half. And, yes, it was great to see Shane Waters back; returned as a sub against Fairview a few weeks ago, but still needs a job done on his knee.

Boro has some good chances but not clinical enough, Bradley was a big loss but Killarney also had a very good player suspended, final straw was Clarke sending off tough result for the boro but I'm sure they will be back with a bang.

Kennycon
15/03/2017, 3:12 PM
Ritchie Mullins not playing was a very strange decision considering the poor level of fitness of one or two of the boro lads, discipline is a huge factor in winning tight games and having two players sent off in the last two fai games does not help, great to see Walters back and I'm sure the boro will be back next year competing against the best.
