Love the hair products thread which I've just read, fishfingers man myself.

However, got some Boots vouchers from Mother in Law at Xmas and decided to update my shaving range. Anyone try King Of Shaves? Unbelievable stuff. I always thought all these different foams/gels were pretty much the same but KOS takes shaving to another dimension. Its completely clear so you can see exactly your shaving line. I'm loving my shaving at the minute, normally bores me senseless. Combine it with new M3Power and you're sorted! :D

Anyone try King Of Shaves?


Tried it before but I settled on the Simple range in the end.
It makes a massive difference if you use a facial scrub first.
Then use shave gel from a tube not a spray can.
Finish off with a cooling gel.
If you get irritations or redness then you should try E45 cream.
It's brilliant but it can leave your skin a bit greasy.

I use a chipped cut-throat razor that i sharpen off a rock.
I don't bother with any of that fancy muck, just take an entire layer of skin off my face, Sure it hurts, but I only have to do it twice a day :D

I always use foam as opposed to the gel, don't know why.

People should boycott Gillette razors as they've something like 70% of worldwide razor market & keep raising prices. (btw the merging with Proctor & Gamble so they'll only be more powerful).

I can never understand how anyone can use those disposable razors as they cut your face to bits.

Best shave is when leave anyhting from few days to weeks growth. IMO less shaving the better.

On my 21st birthday I read an article detailling how man hours of my life I would waste in shaving, and so I took the bold step of growing a beard.
It grew up fast enough over the next two months, except that my beard was dark brown, whilst to the delight and amsuement of all, my moustache was a dark strawberry blonde. The effect made me look not unlike Manfred Mann, or Abe Lincoln.
In desperation I used my sisters mascara in order to get the moustache the same colour as the beard, and set off down the pub. I was halfway through the first pint when the words "Waterproof" entered my head, just as I realised that everyone was laughing at my moustache, which was now melting. I went home an shaved the b*stard thing off there and then, returning later in the evening with plasters all over my face.

It's not unusual to have different colours in your facial hair.
The mascara was never going to work though. ;)

It must be said that the best life is the bearded life ;)

Joking aside, I found I was being taken more seriously on various jobs when bearded than not - it was as though I developed a degree of maturity that I had not earned through age and experience. This has enabled me to continue living at a level of immaturity that complements my lifestyle without people noticing it.

True, often people reckon I'm a few years older than I actually am, but when I wear my hair the right way (i.e. whatever way it was when I woke up) and wear the right clothes, I can still be mistaken for a student and get in cheaper into the cinema. It's the ultimate win-win situation. :D :D :D

I'm a King of Shaves man myself, the stuff is great if a little expensive.

Lately though I've taken the designer stubble route. Shave a bit of the cheeks and neck with a normal razor and then get the electric shavers on a high setting to the rest.

Great post Davey. Great to see lads who take care of themselves and are willing to share their information with the rest of us. Peader is our resident expert on grooming. However, Im intrigued by this KOS stuff. What exactly is it? Can you get it anywhere?

its a small bottle of lotion that u rub on ur face before shavin u use it like gel or foam.

They do the larger tube of shaving gel (which doesn't foam) and the small tube of shaving oil. More of a gel man myself. It contains teatree oil which leaves your face feeling fresh.

Well, having spent years using conventional shaving products (including King of Shaves' shaving oil and gels) and having to cope with dry skin afterwards, I switched to using aloe vera gel instead. It's far cheaper, good for your skin (i.e. no nasty chemicals - just do a Google to see what laureth sulphates do to your body) and it's a natural moisturiser too.

If you young bucks really do take good care of yourselves and your appearances (as I am led to believe you do) then you could do a lot worse than shaving with aloe vera instead. Available from any half-decent health store.

I discovered KOS a good while ago, great stuff. Way better than oil or foam. The one containing tea tree oil is the best. As was said earlier, facial scrub before hand. Then afterwards I rinse with cold water, then hot, then with Natures Way tea-tree oil wash.

It's a good idea to look for aftershave lotions which don't contain alcohol.
I used Tea tree oil for a while but ended up smelling like wood polish so I went back to Simple Skin Defence.

I'm digging back up this old thread because I have a question about designer stubble. A while ago I decided to grow some because I'm sick of shaving but I didn't really want a full beard. I bought a beard trimmers to try and keep short stubble by shaving every few days with it. I've found that the lowest setting on the beard trimmers leaves the stubble too long.

So my question is does anyone have designer stubble and what do they use to achieve it? Any suggestions for good shavers?

yeah what i do is pour hot water over my face for a while then throw on the gel/foam.it softens the hair and it comes off a lot easier then.

Use an electric razor that can be adjusted for closeness.
Designer stubble is difficult to maintain on a daily basis.

On top of that, it tears the face off the ladies, not to mention what it does to their more sensitive areas!

They look, & probably are the cheapest out there, but Bic Disposable razors make a Crocodile Dundee knive look redundant. Im a once a week man off the record.

Simple Pre-Wash Scrub works with hot water before hand, followed by King Of Shave Gel... the black s**t with grit.. ;)
After fully shaved, douse face repeatedly with cold water.

As for that balm & moisturizer business afterwards... :rolleyes:

I love my old beard too. Keep it trimmed and tidy. Hate those horrible bushy ones.

Got a Whal trimmer via Amazon a couple weeks ago. Only needs a cuple of little batteries as well but has a kick like a mule. Loads of accessories with it as well.
This is it. It's not too dear either.
