Let's look at the FACTS so that there can be no debate and no 'rumour starting' accusations,
here's our sitation -
WE'VE SIGNED NO ONE! - The transfer deadline is fast approaching and I for one think we need 3/4 new players, we got NO ONE!!!
OUR COACHING STAFF IS RAPIDLY DECREASING! - Have we anyone left???!!
OUR MANAGER IS STIRRING IT! - Come on, much as I respect Dolan, he moans to the press about EVERYTHING. Now there's the Limerick rumours, which AFAIK, he hasn't even denied.
What's going on?
If Dolan has yet to sign (or be offered) a new contract a rumour about Limerick suits him fine - if Lennox wants to keep him and believes that there is any truth in the rumour, it increases the pressure on him to offer a good deal.
BTW, surprised BRB didn't talk about it last night - even to rubbish the rumour.
No denying though that losing four coaching staff is not good.
Dolan alone did the training yesterday.
Another fact to add to your list? - we've lost the use of UL

Another fact to add to your list? - we've lost the use of UL
How do you know this ??
There is no point in adding to the rumours that already exist, i am sorry but that sounds exactly like a few lads at the bar decide that the rumour was now confirmed and started telling everyone, to which they replied "sure there were rumour all along so it MUST have been true"
It is the silly season alright ..... i cant wait for the season to start !!
WE'VE SIGNED NO ONE! - The transfer deadline is fast approaching and I for one think we need 3/4 new players, we got NO ONE!!!
Wrong, the deadline is not until March, plenty of time yet. No point in signing anyone just for the sake of brining someone in. We must wait until the RIGHT players come along.
So that statement contains an inaccuracy and an opinion.
Where are the FACTS?
(First transfer window closes Friday, March 4th 2005. The second transfer window will run for the calendar month of July 2005.)
OUR COACHING STAFF IS RAPIDLY DECREASING! - Have we anyone left???!!
All the coaches who left did so to further their own career. Were Lennox or Dolan supposed to hold them back from that? Again, the right people must be brought in, not a quick appointment to please impatient and paranoid fans.
OUR MANAGER IS STIRRING IT! - Come on, much as I respect Dolan, he moans to the press about EVERYTHING. Now there's the Limerick rumours, which AFAIK, he hasn't even denied.
How exactly is Dolan "Stirring it"?
What has he moaned about? Would it be stuff like "I'd like things to be better at the club"?
Hmmm, now thats not something you would hear too many managers say....
Nothing personal anti-dub, but this is yet another hysterical thread about nothing at all. The only FACT in you post is that we have less coaching staff now.

Sorry. I'll rephrase it : We lost the use of UL this weekend. The planned trip was cancelled for reasons unknown. Maybe the detailed fitness information on each players condition has been deemed pointless this season. It is probably purely coincidental that the Limerick/ UL connection of O'Connor and Mahedy is also gone.
I also know that:
Appart from Tynan and some youth from Sligo there were no new faces at B'town today.
There were no coaches there either.
No sign of Coughlan.
The fact that they were at B'town at all is a negative versus last year (last season = UL for first practice game.)
The only dodgy rumour seems to be the Dolan to Limerick one.
We lost the use of UL this weekend. The planned trip was cancelled for reasons unknown.
How do you know that "we lost the use of UL" ?
As you stated yourself, the trip (if there actually was a planned trip) is off "for reasons unknown".....
What facts are you on about? All you've done is post a load of hysterical nonsense.
As Pat outlined we have loads of time to sign players if Dolan and Lennox think we need them.
People are going on about Dolan doing the training alone. Well Liam Murphy is in Barcelona with the Colleges team so he can't be there obviously but surely Gerry Harris was there?
Dolan needs time to find an assistant, he has to make sure he's got the right man. If he rushed into it, people would still be moaning.
Dolan isn't stirring anything. As far as I'm aware the rumour originated from Limerick as they wanted to generate publicity. How can you blame Dolan when it had nothing to do with him?
I wish people would stop saying we've "lost" UL because it's crap and was just a silly rumour started by some fella on the internet. Some people should know better than to believe these things. We're just not going there this weekend, no big deal. Some players have gone there for fitness tests etc over the last month but nobody seems to want to mention that, people prefer to spread panic with their bullsh!t.

I'm not one to buy into the silly season rumour mill, and I don't buy that Dolan will go to Limerick, but the newspaper who is pushing this story most vigourously is 'The Star'.
Dolan is their featured Eircom League columnist.
It would be very easy for him to knock this story on the head if he wanted to .

The story was in the Sun not the Star.
Dolan has no connection with the Sun and surely if it had been Dolan "stirring it" he would have gone to the paper he writes for and not their rivals.

Fair enough, I don't buy either, but had been told the Star were the ones pushing it. I guess my point is no longer valid so :o

No tiktok, you're right, Colm's wrong. The story was ALSO in the Star last Saturday.
From today's Echo:
"CORK City boss Pat Dolan today rubbished talk linking him with Limerick FC.
The City supremo, just back from a 10-day trip to England, said that he has not received an approach from Danny Drew’s side. “I have had no dealings with Limerick whatsoever. I have had no approach from them and I haven’t met with anyone from the club. I am at a loss to know where these stories are coming from but then I cannot stop people writing such rubbish either,” said Dolan.
“I am only interested in Cork City FC and I want to try and move the club forward and build on the success we had last year. “I want us to be as consistent as we can be again and to continue to be the form team in the new season. “I want us to try and win the Championship this year and that’s all that interests me. I am only interested in Cork City and the betterment of the football club,” he added this morning.
Cork were forced to pull out of a planned two-day trip to the University of Limerick over the weekend because of a referee’s seminar on campus.
City now have plans to go to UL next weekend or the week after as they resumed training for the season at Bishopstown on Saturday and yesterday. Cork had 23 players at both sessions over the weekend."
Anyone want to spout even more bullsh*t rubbish about "losing" UL, and Dolan "Stirring it" ?
Maybe the doom sayers and negativity merchants might give it a rest for awhile now. If you don't know, keep quite!

IMO as soon as this story broke it should have been denied by the club with a statement
IMO as soon as this story broke it should have been denied by the club with a statement
Dolan was away though and is only just back so this was his first chance to speak with the press on the issue.
Nobody believed it anyway and the club can't be expected to reply to every piece of crap that's printed.
So does anyone else have any more bullsh!t rumours to spread? Would anyone else like to try and damage the reputation of our club with their lies?

john o flynn and georgie are going to be o connors first signings for limerick ;)
we need more notice than that :D :D :D
IMo there are some people out there with an agenda re this club. They seem to have issues with Lennox as chairman and be trying to put pressure on him. For any of you ungrateful ****es who are thinking along these lines, remember what Brian Lennox HAS done, IS doing, and is TRYING to do for this club, and then crawl back under your rock.
re all the rumours, Dolan has put much of it to rest with his comments in the echo. I spoke to one of the players, and was told that they hope derek will be coming back within the next week or two, hoggie and woodsie have signed new deals, and dolan is in great form at training.
the only thing that worries me is the lack of coaching staff, but lets just try and trust that dolan and lennox know what they're doing for a while, will we?

In the tradition of some senior posters here I could ignore the primary content of the post and point out that there were actually 24 players there on Sunday. :p
Delighted that the UL is still available (City got in there due to the Limerick coaching connection and it wasn't inconceivable that it could be lost with the departure of the coaches, a possibility made more plausable by the last minute "forced pull-out"- certainly more likely than a clash with a ref convention  ), but find the "forced to pull out" thing a bit amateur - pretty poor planning on someones part (CCFC or UL?)

By the way, regarding my above comments, City- from now on- CAN ONLY SIGN PLAYERS ON FREE TRANSFERS. It was obviously my mistake to say signings full stop.
As usual, CCFC=Freebies. All this in today's Echo.

Well Colm maybe you should take your own advice, in this thread, you claimed that the Star didn't publish anything about Dolan leaving, but they did.

This Derek thing is a slower story line than Biddie and Miley.
Surely it would be in the best interests of the club if he was available from the start of the pre-season training.
Yesterdays practice match had Colin T and a U21 trialist playing centreback..we need Derek and AN Other.IMO.
The transfer window may be open for a while yet, but would it not be better to have new players in now, not "settling-in" after the start of the season.
The coaching staff thing is a worry. Sure Dolan will get someone in but it would be naive to think that this resource shortage will have no effect on preparations for the new season.
However let's be clear, we can NOT NOW BUY ANYONE! As usual, CCFC=Freebies. All this in today's Echo.
Well, City can still buy someone up until midnight tonight.
However, City can still buy, as the eL transfer window is open for another few weeks yet, so players from other eL clubs can be bought.
As for CCFC=Freebies. So be it. Not done so bad in recent times - Murphy, Doyle, George, Flynn, Gamble, Kearney, Murray, Fenn - all first teamers.

My mistake, Gary, thanks, I did say that this was what I read in the Echo.....just mis-interpreted Spillane's dodgy journalism.
Also, freebies can IMO only get you so far.
Dolan has rubbished the Limerick rumours. click (http://breakingnews.iol.ie/sport/story.asp?j=132171672&p=y3zy7z378&t=soccer)

Two points on the issue of new players:
1. Is there any player currently playing for another eL club, who would improve the City squad, who would move to City? IMO, no. In the opinion of the player I spoke to- NO. Shels and city between them have most of the best players in the league. players won't leave shels to join us, and we know how difficult it is to get players from Dublin and surrounding areas (I include Longford) to leave there. So that's probably why we haven't signed anyone.
2. We do need another player or two, starting with a centre-half. Ideally Derek would sign asap, and get pre-season done. And maybe Dolan will do his usual of picking up a player or two at the last minute

Surely our glorious leader didn't go to England for ten days for no reason. He went to some footy matches, or is he just a closet groundhopper?!!
Mind you, if he wants to sign someone from across the water he has, approximately, eighteen minutes left, according to my timepiece.

If he manages to pick someone decent up out of contract I'll be happy.
AFAIK, Devine is the only of our current starting 11 that we paid money for, may be wrong, but as far as I'm concerned we've done very very well picking up out of contract players.
Realistically the only players abroad that will be available to city will be those that are going to be out of contract in the summer but clubs agreeing to release them early.
Better to wait to sign quality as we don't really need cover in the squad as plenty for that already.
I think the squad as it satnds now is a bit smaller than last season which may mean Dolan has the funds to pay wages for new players?
Perhaps a few crafty loan deals with a view to permanent signing, a lá Dan Murray, would be feasible as well?

Any of you concerned about the lack of quality signings shouls take a look at the Sligo board.
They've got a guy from Hawawii from an American outfit called Syracuse Salty Dogs plus another guy who couldn't hack it with Northwitch.
Some of the Sligo lads are actually expressing optimism at this turn of events!
We should give thanks!

Wrong! They are well capable of winning it.
When Dolan finally figured out his best eleven in the middle of the season City went on to win the last third of the season by a mile.
All the players are fit, available and most of all enthusiastic - so why not?

1 word Shels.
At the moment city are relying on current crop to at least reproduce best form from last season & particularily weak in midfield.
No use bringing in more squad players. Need to improve 1st team & bench quality.
Shel$ will now have formidable 1st team & some really good options off the bench.
I think our first team is as good as anyone in the league. Our squad isn't as good as shels. To win the league, we need our players to stay fit, and avoid suspension- i.e. a bit of luck.
Look at it this way- towards the end of the season once gamble grew into his role and doyler went up front, we looked excellent. The only thing counting against us last year really was inexperience, and the end to the season will have done a lot to combat that. Shels have spent a lot, and I don't think they'll be able to keep all those players happy, and it will also take some time for them all to settle in. The key for us, IMO, is to start well and if shels have a poor start (which I think they will) then we have the early advantage. People are giving shels far too much credit altogether IMO

Our best team is good enough, and they are all fit, but..
Last season SteveO, Hoggie and Flynny all had long injury spells. Who will it be this year?
Luckily enough the covering players weren't half bad - but what happens if Benno and Murray get injured or suspended at the same time? IMO, we don't have enough cover at centreback.
I also think that George is pivotal - he brings something to the team that no one else in the squad has.

Good points , but sorry, I don't buy the inexperience line at all.
Go throughthe first thirteen or so and you will not find a novice amongst them.
Horgan?
CT?
George?
Woods?
Greg?
How much more experience do we need?
^^^
While I dont disagree with you per se - how many trophies have the above players won? How many league titles?
I wouldnt call George an experienced player. Ok, he is 25, but only has been playing in this league now for little over 2 years, after being a bit part player in the UK. Thats not to say he isnt very effective and a vital part of the team though.
Greg may be experienced, but thats not to say that they are all good experiences. Look at his City career. It has been checkered to say the least.
