Moving into the RDS will be like Limerick in Thomond Park
Maybe they could play at a smaller stadium and just use the RDS for their European games 😉
What ground would be the best option? Shelbourne park perhaps, or Irishtown stadium?
Otherwise, what would the Shels faithful think of moving even further south of Shelbourne itself, possibly into the RDS or even Donnybrook stadium? Either or them would seem like a decent location, right in the heart of the south side surrounded by massive population, and either of those stadia would be lovely for a LOI club. Donnybrook might be pushing it as it's about a mile south of Shelbourne, but it's still probably closer to Shelbourne than Drumcondra.
Donnybrook is only about 2km from the Belfield Bowl. What do you propose doing with UCD if Shels were to move there?

This thread is heading into farce now.
Shels for Donnybrook, UCD for Swords. Cabo for Cabinteely. Cork for France. Ice for the Eskimos.

Donnybrook is a non-runner, it has a top class rugby astorturf now, not suitable for football. The clubs are also extremely protective of it. RDS is far too big for a LOI club (the main stands in the new Dalymount are going to be waaaay too big also at 4,500, gonna be an atmosphere-killer but sin scéal eile).
In terms of the four options mentioned above, I think the two most likely ones (ground share with Bohs, and stay rotting in Tolka) would be terrible for Shelbourne. For the club to thrive, there needs to be a change. I know that it's not the cup of tea for every Shels fans but there are hundreds of thousands of potential football fans in north Dublin just there for the taking.

Merge, obviously. Shelbourne-UCD could play as SUCD - it'd be a headline writer's dream.
For the club launch/Euro campaign - SUCD Off/in Europe
For relegation woes - SUCD into Dogfight
For the captain's honesty after a bad game - We SUCD!
For FAI fines, league fee etc - SUCD Dry by FAI
I can only see it as a winner.

A new Fingal-UCD project would be better I think.
UCD take over DCU and then we can have a Fingal UCD team.

If we merged with Bohs, would we have to move to Drogheda?

Now, Charlie, expecting to get both of those is a little bit greedy, don't you think?
