Windfall for League if Dundalk Progress?

Article is a bit surprising TBH, I had not heard of the 17.f million figure for Dundalk before.. but indicates clubs could share 3.1 million if Dundalk progress.

But Dundalk progressing isn't a good thing for the league.

Well obviously this changes things. Although if they do make 17 million it'll be very hard for anyone to compete with them.

If Dundalk progress to the Champions League Group stages and generate a possible further estimated €15m for the club, what effect will it really have on the league here!

Will Dundalk become like clubs such as Bate (Belarus) or Rosenborg (Norway) and dominate the league every year with such vast monies available over other home clubs?

What is great about our league is that the title challenge has been open (allowing for the last couple of years), but if a club gets access to the Champions League gravy it could potentially create a similar situation here!

So will the FAI be handed €3.1m or the clubs? It says the league will receive it and the League is run by the FAI so to me it looks like it goes to the FAI.

More good news, hope every loI fan makes an effort to get up to the Dublin Arena and support Dundalk next week. Is it all passed on to the running of the league is another reason for more openness from the FAI in relation to their financial affairs. Also all LoI clubs should publish detailed financial account, especially showing spending on staff and players wages. I think in the US players wages in MLS and public knowledge.

The reason clubs don't do it in Ireland is probably due to the fact the smaller clubs would lose their players very easily otherwise. If let's say Dundalk want Aaron Greene from us, the last thing we want is for Dundalk to know how much he is on at be easily out bid. He same for the whole budget, if they know what the club can spend it makes it very easy to take players, coaches etc...

The only people that should know the details are the club members if they have them.

Clearly I wasn't the only one unaware of the potential scale of them since it wasn't mentioned in the previous discussions...

If spent correctly these funds could make a real impact, there would have to be rock solid provisions in there to make sure it was spent strategically rather than in one more wages arms race.

On the other hand Dundalk face a huge challenge to progress so early days on this.

I'd still rather they not go through, I want to have some hope of winning a league in the next 10 years, I know its just as if not more likely we will go boom in that time but I would like to be able to live in hope at least for a while.

I thought it was only €12m if progression into the CL group stage.

Money doesn't guarantee success. Just look at the clubs that attempted it before. I'm sure that the owners of the club would take out a portion of the money for themselves and rightly so. Then there are the bonuses. If recent press articles are to believed then that is already about €1m. Then take into account stadium improvements or new stadium. The money could go quite fast.

E12m is the prize for getting to the group stage - they would also get E4m for winning the play-off round, and the prize money earned in rounds 1-3 (E900k or whatever it is)

Wasn't aware of it either. I know bigger leagues got solidarity payments, but wasn't aware of it like this.

Should Dundalk go into the Europa League, the domestic league will get a share in the €23.5m available to every other Uefa member.

That would work out at around €381,000 per league, with a further portion then added for the nation’s TV market share.The league is guaranteed at least €381,000. I hope this isn't where the FAI's €100,000 is coming from with them pocketing the rest.

So there is still some money for other league clubs from this. All bar Dundalk receive it, but not clear if that is all top flight or all league clubs.


Solidarity payments to clubs not qualified for UEFA club competitions

The solidarity payments to non-participating clubs via their national associations and/or leagues, formerly amounting to 6.5% of the UEFA Champions League clubs’ share, will now represent 5% of the overall gross revenues of the two competitions. A total of €112m will be distributed to national associations and/or leagues for their clubs, compared to €82.4m in the 2012-15 cycle, thus representing an increase of more than 35%. 80% of this amount will be distributed to national associations and/or leagues with at least one club participating in the UEFA Champions League group stage and 20% to national associations and/or leagues without participating clubs. Only clubs not participating in the group stage of either competition will be entitled to a share of these solidarity payments.

Furthermore, the distribution to national associations and/or leagues will no longer be exclusively based on their market value, but 60% of the available amounts will be distributed in equal shares amongst all national associations and/or leagues and only 40% will follow the market value. This will ensure a fairer distribution of solidarity amounts to European clubs.

I'm fairly sure that all prize money from Uefa (even the €6mill or whatever Dundalk are earned) fgoes to the national association first, and from there the association sends it to the club(s).

This shouldn't be a worry but i'd half expect a bill for €5.9 from the FAI in fines for Legia flares or some other spurious reason!!

Dear Club,

Please note that there has been an increase in the cost of fines for use of flares inside grounds. The fine on this occasion is the number of seats in the ground,multiplied by the number of flares used. This equates to 51,000 x 100, which is = €5.1m

We at the FAI want you to know,that we treat all Clubs equally and the size of this fine is in no way connected to a) your recent windfall from UEFA or b) our large outstanding stadium debt.
