Second half capitulation by the Youths meant that the home team took a right pasting from Sligo tonight after having put in a decent first half. With Spot Murphy back from suspension, Shane Keegan also started with Conor O'Keeffe right full and went with Graham, Conor, Gary, Lasty, Lee, Duxey, Hopper, Jonny, Spot and with Andy playing behind Danny up front. Youths started in the worst possible way by conceding on three minutes when again they gave the ball away in their own half and it was played through to Cretaro who slotted under Graham Doyle for 1-0 to Sligo. Youths responded well to this set-back and,on eight minutes, Danny was put through but his flick with his left was saved by Schlingermann in the Sligo goal. Danny then had two further efforts from the right-wing but neither was on target. On 24 minutes, Sligo had a header which went a yard over the bar and then Hopper crashed a header off the Sligo cross-bar on the half-hour. With seven minutes to go in the half, Sadlier for Sligo had a very good move down the right side of Wexford but couldn't pick out anyone in the box. Half-time whistle went shortly afterwards with Wexford perhaps slightly unlucky to be going in 1-0 down.

Early second half goal, again from a defensive lapse, then killed the tie as Kerins for Sligo stabbed home from close in on eight minutes again when it seemed that Wexford should have cleared the ball in their own half. Wexford were more or less gone from then on and further goals for Sligo then followed by Campion and Sadlier with two more. Late subs for Wexford were Roxy Keenan, Shane Dempsey and Andrew O'Connor while the only real effort by Wexford in the second half was from Stephen Last whose header from a corner was tipped over the bar by Schlingermann for another corner. Yellows were also given to Gary Delaney for dissent and Conor O'Keeffe for a tackle. The size of the task facing Shane Keegan is now evident and he needs to turn it around fast for the crunch game against Longford next week. One issue that was evident to most Wexford fans when leaving the ground was the home players looking uncomfortable being played out of position with Spot Murphy, Duxey Dunne and Andy Mulligan all seeming as if they would be better suited to playing in their normal positions. Thought Adebayo-Rowling looked a class player for the away side. 0-5 to Sligo at full-time with about 450 at the match.
