Just an idle thought, but I'm wondering who the, ahem, neutrals would like to see win the Setanta.
Seeing as it can't be us  I'm rootin' for the Corkies!

Longford, I'd like to see an EL club win it anyway.

If Shels go out in the group stages I'll support whichever EL teams are left, it'd be good for the league to win the tournament. I get the feeling that that may not be a universal thing though, if, say, Cork go out and Shels make the final ;)

Cork, then any other EL team, then the Glens.
Would weep bitterly if it was a Linfield v Portadown final, and would wish a plague on both their houses.... :)

Glentoran.
Don't want any of the Eircom League teams getting the winning prizemoney and moving further ahead of Bohs.

I think the difference between the two leagues will show.
I predict two EL teams in the final.

Nah, kinda ruins it for me- a north-south final would have a better atmosphere to it i'd say.
I'd like to see Cork win it.

Here's how I think it will finish:
GROUP 1
1. Linfield
2. Longford Town
3. Glentoran
GROUP 2
1. Cork City
2. Portadown
3. Shelbourne

Portadown
I want an IL team to win but can't bring myself to support any of the Big Two, plus IF Portadown are on form they are capable of playing nice football.
They have the 2 toughest teams (on paper) in their group though.
At the minute, of the 3 IL teams, i really can't see Linfield winning it. The Glens might do well. Who knows ;)

Depends how you define "support".
If you mean did they vote to recognise fact - that both common sense and the recommendation of the British Security Forces stated that there was no security reason for football not to return to the Brandywell - then yes.
"Support" is perhaps too strong a word though....
:)
I'd still rather the Glens than them any day...

No prizes for guessing who I'm rooting for :) ..I'm happy enough with that draw, I reckon we have a better chance of beating Linfield and Glens than Shels and probably Cork who know all about us, we're going to be rightly going for this tournament, should be interesting.
I'd like to see Longford win it but they probably wont.

with danny, andy and gary cronin leaving us to longford, i'd like to see the lads win some silverware
so for once c'mon longford.

Glentoran.

I agree, definitely could do without Shels getting more money

If not ourselves i'd like to see Cork win it.Shels have to much money as it is and it would be nice for Pat Dolan to win something at Cork before he leaves for Limerick. :D

1.Longford
2.Cork
3. Shels
4. Don't care
fcking mickey mouse makey up competition - nice prize fund though...
think the IL selection bet us in the last inter league outing in Galway so twill be interesting to see what the story is now - the potential for embaressement is massive if the EL teams dont put them away convincingly IMHO

People seem to be writing off the Northern teams willy nilly, based on what facts? They'll be match fit and the EL teams will just be back in training!
But my preference would be Longford closely followed by Cork.
None of the above........ ;)
I supppose thats because all of the above are Irish? Just a hunch!

Purely for a footballing point of view I'd have to say Shels v Linfield would be a good final. Otherwise I'd go for the Langers (only kidding) :D

I'd probably shout for Shels. Play much better football than Longford and slightly better than Cark. Not sure how much more 150,000 would make a difference to Shels next season, I can see them romping home with it next year either way. Plus I'd really like to see Gary O'Neill do well for Shelbourne, broke his heart for us all season, and an absolute gentleman to boot.

Well, would have backed Bohs,Shams, The Gate & a whole plethora of more minor teams............ ;)
Ahh but I thought you were a Celtic man because of their Irish connections, surley you should be going mad for Shels, Longford or Cork to win it! (Though I can't blame you for not going mad for Cork to win it in fairness, but that's a different story ;) )

It's the least we can do to ease the paranoia of the real capital!
In truth, the further the money goes from $hels, the better.
(Cue mealy-mouthed 'typical Bohs attitude' whinges from the most negative club in the league)

I think the top teams in the irish league will suprise many eircom league fans .
Of the 3, I will go for Glentoran. They have a decent team and can draw in big gates.(they brought over 500 to a friendly against Letterkenny rovers last summer!)
