First attacking backheel from Ireland since Amsterdam 2000?

Utterly unrecognisable from the Belgium game. Or even from most of qualifying

My heart won't take this.
Mine has turned into something pneumatic.

Whatever O'Neill said to the team at half-time.. has had a negative effect..

pineapple stu

That's been coming since half time unfortunately

Ugh. That was on the cards.

Corner?

In all fairness, France have been cranking the pressure. Got too compressed and deep in the middle. McCarthy lose Griezmann?

pineapple stu
26/06/2016, 2:19 PM
How the ****ing hell did the fifth official not see that was a corner?

What the **** does he be looking at all game?

SwanVsDalton
26/06/2016, 2:22 PM
Composure. Not getting drawn to the ball. Staying with your man. Stay on your feet. Take a touch. It's not unknown in underdog teams, but we need to handle pressure better.

Very poor defending.

Not over by a long shot, this one. Come on Ireland!

pineapple stu
26/06/2016, 2:25 PM
That's the end of that.

France have made us look very very ordinary since half time.

Ah fook. Thanks ref.

Our defence seem to have disappeared. What was McClean doing when he got inside Rami, he literally just needed to roll it across the goal for Murphy to tap in but gave it to Koscielny instead. Really lacking quality which undoes some of his brilliant work. That wasn't even difficult. I'd snap your hand off for it to stay like this now!

Clutching at straws now.. come on Wes!

We just need a goal for penos.

We just need a goal for penos.

Yeah, just one goal and somehow survive another 45 minutes without conceded, out on our feet with ten men!

geysir

Way too many mistakes crept into our game, one after the other punished ruthlessly, look knackered too.

Totally ****ed off!
The lads were doing well until defensively we ball watched.

What was Jack the Ripper (Keogh) and Duffa doing?

Upto then I thought we would win it.

Randolph is one cool dude.

we can do it if we go forward

If we equalise, France will win 5-2 aet

Hendrick lucky to stay on the pitch there.

Hoolahan has been very poor.

see too much ****ing about Coleman played it backwards,
we wont score going backwards to our goal i am fairly sure of that

Daft for France to go for the corner when 3v2 given how tired we are now.

My fear as well. A pure loser mentality but pretty chuffed with 2-1 the way it unfolded and taking 2012 into account. Hendrick very lucky alright.

Shambolic second half but overall very proud.

seems like we ran out of gas we didn't want extra time, too shaattered

Half-time killed us after a great first half. It happens.

We've played some great football in patches though.

A massive, massive improvement on Euro 2012.

Yeah couldn't believe Griezmann didn't play Payet in, maybe he wants top goalscorer. :D

all changed when we never got a clear corner, something wrong there.
Something very wrong.

45 minutes of Ireland v Italy. 45 minutes of Ireland v Belgium.

France will be disappointed not to have scored more.

Like in the Belgium game, we can point to an awful ref call before we conceded - but we were still very much second best.

Still worried about the future given the ageing squad.

So be it. Quality told in the end and freshness too. Frustrating that a routine high ball undid us. Need to see it again, but there was no need for Duffy to come across I think.

Randolph did well. Saw the ball early all through the first half. Might have saved the second if it hadn't taken a nick.

Wes lost the ball easily at times. Maybe McGeady would have been better.

Do the suspensions carry into the qualifiers? I expect Duffy yes but not sure about Jeff and Shane.

Very proud of them all. The natural changing of the guard is taking place and I think we're in a decent place.

something sickening about being beaten by a long ball.. by a team that shouldn't even be playing them!

Great effort from the lads, up against the French, the bent ref the bent linesman and the bent third official.

14 v 10 is tough.

Stop gloating doc.

How the f did McClean not pick out Murphy that time? Gilt edged chance for a second.

paul_oshea

Ward is so ****e he kept getting pulled in and they knew that. They exposed it and got it for the first goal.

Duffy as I've always said has those moments in him and it costs dearly in international football not in championship so much.

We really could have beaten them.fresher legs and I think we would have. That's the disappointing thing.

Stuttgart88
26/06/2016, 3:14 PM
Dixon being charitable and saying tiredness causes bad decisions.

I think you heavily criticised Duffy once Paul! He was at fault but he's young and inexperienced. He's got a good head on him and has a good future ahead of him if he pushes on.

I thought it was more that Murphy got too far ahead of the ball.

They gave it everything they had. Not a lot can be said. I think we can feel a bit hard done by by some of the misses by the referee before both goals. That **** up by McClean was the chance though.

Duffy did the right thing but we were exhausted in the last 20-30 mins. Dead on our feet. France had an extra three days of rest which definitely will have helped them and to our detriment. We couldn't even muster a real final assault there in the last 10 we were so exhausted.

I think we can be proud of our tournament. Just 90 minutes of bad performance. Compared to 270 under Trap in 2012. What a *****.

There's hope for this Irish team (don't confuse with "the Irish system" which has huge issues) in the next few years. A changing of the guard though. Keane, Given and O'Shea need to step down and Walters and Wessi are really getting on too.

I don't know - I'm disappointed but I'm proud.

No, it was a shocker of a ball from McClean. If he looked up all he'd have had to do is square it but he plays with his head down and he cut it back to no one. Very poor:
