Last night's Herald (I didn't buy it I swear!!), as well as saying that we've signed Dupuy, said that we've signed Adrian Murphy; the Longford guy who went to Athlone last season. He scored 11 for them so he should be a decent addition. There was talk of him joining us on loan last year if I remember rightly so it seems fairly reasonable.

I assume that means that we won't be getting Ger Rowe.

Good signing for ye, he left us last season after a disagreement over first team football..he's a student in UCD so it would be handy for him, Premier football will help him along although I think he's a bit raw yet

Interesting...

Murphy scored twice in Belfield in that bizarre first home game of the season when we won 4-3.

Wonder what Bald Student is going to make of this? Hope he doesn't get confused! :p

Well thanks for the info. Here's one for ye all. Stuart Holt graduated from UCD and has never kicked a ball in anger for the club.
In the late 1980's former U.C.D. striker Paul Cullen only signed for the club in summer 1988 which was for the final year of his degree. He played his first two academic seasons with home town club Bray Wanderers. His father was on the board of directors at the time.
Paul played for us up to 1992 when he moved to play for Shamrock Rovers.
He went on to play for Ards and Bangor in the Irish League plus
Finn Harps ( his wife is from Ballybofey).

Confirmed from eleven-a-side (http://www.eleven-a-side.com/ucd/irish_soccer_detail.asp?newsid=15659). Murphy's only 18 too (Dupuy's 26). We're also after Ger McCarthy (http://www.eleven-a-side.com/ucd/irish_soccer_detail.asp?newsid=15656) for some reason - where are all the random punters, mysterious strangers and newguys? :)

Just for the record Adrian Murphy is 19. Top scorer for Longford at U21 level when Longford won the cup a few years ago. Made his Premier debut for Longford at 17 and scored against Shamrock Rovers . Left Longford last season as Alan Matthews signed in two new strikers and told him he was well down the picking order. Signed for Arron O'Callaghan (who had been assistant manager with Longford the previous season) who guaranteed him he would be the main striker at Athlone. Scored 15 goals in all competitions for Athlone incuding a cracker against Longford at Flancare in the drawn FAI cup fixture. Funnily enough Arron O'Callaghan resigned as Athlone manager early in the season and returned to his old job at Longford (which was a very positive thing for the club)
It will be interesting to see how Adrian will develop at UCD which seems a very positive move for him.
