Bury have made another loan signing with the acquisition of Blackburn Rovers defender John Fitzgerald.

The Republic of Ireland youth international played for his country at the last World Youth Championships in the United Arab Emirates in December 2003 and he arrives at Gigg Lane after striker Andrew Keogh joined on loan from Leeds United.

Despite winning youth international honours, the 21-year-old has struggled to break into Blackburn's first team, so the youngster has decided to take a month-long spell with The Shakers.

Fitzgerald will be available for Saturday's match against Northampton Town and Shakers boss Graham Barrow was pleased to add another new face to his squad.

"He has experience of international football with the Irish Under-21 side, playing six games and scoring four goals, which is always a plus for a defender," Barrow told the club's official website.

"We seem to be using the Irish connection a lot these days and you have to say that these Irish lads have a fantastic spirit about them.

"We've spoken to a few players over the last few days, but these Irish lads seem to relish coming to a club like us and I know he is looking forward to getting the first game out of the way."

On the topic of team spirit, is Kilbane doing something to Keane's backside in this pic we shouldn't know about:
