From reading your posts, you love to stir it.
No doubt your mates are just as bad.
Didn't mean it in an offensive way, just stuck it in.

I dont stir anything pal. Merely give my opinion is all. Dont have "mates". Not in england. Stereotypical response from a misinformed fan with the trouble tag.

Today in Israel the second biggest newspaper ( maariv ) wrote an artical about your country.
The topic was how you underastimate our national team , and this is a translated quote : " they believe they have 9 points out of the next 3 games ( including Israel ) for sure. All they talk about is the match against France because they believe that that will be the most importent game to the group although its only in September. Although FAI got 3,500 tickets to the match , not all of them will be taken. "

who is the "they" that is referred too? I certainly dont hold that opinion so are they quoting from players/management here or just flying a kite ?

As I've already said i dont undersestimate the Israeli team and i do not know anyone who does

If you dont underestimate Israel it dosn't mean that everony in your country dosn't.
The reporter did quote a fan that said that he will stay at home because you will win for sure.
The reporter did say that your coach dosn't underestimate Israel and the coach also said: "he need's the green-army with the team" .

.
I did not say it did , I merely said that I have not heard one person saying they did not think Israel was a threat.
How can one fans view (we dont know who he is so cannot judge the source) be representative of the whole football community here.

I really dont know how the journalist came to this view and i would question his motives. The fact that not many are travelling is no indication of whether we consider Isreal to be a threat or not.

I personally think that Israel are as big a threat to us than either France or Switzerland

Make no mistake, as neither France or Switzerland have managed to beat beat Israel and they are unbeaten in four games, the Irish team, their manager and the fans will have the utmost respect for Israel.

There is nobody thinking that Ireland are guaranteed 9 points from the next three games. Obviously, I hope that Ireland wins next month's game but if we come away with a draw I will be satisfied.

hi bonk, was shocked to read that, maybe the israeli media think we are like the english and think we are going to win all the time, and every game :D i am concerned about this game personally, i really want ireland to win, but i do not believe that we are guaranteed to win this or the next 2 games. God i hope so, ;) not as many fans will go to this game due to its clash with easter(family commitments) and cost and for some chickens, the security  i will be crapping myself watching this game, same level as switzerland and france. may the best team win :D :D

I presume the assumption by the paper is on the basis that so few fans are travelling to the game in comparison with Paris. This of course has nothing to do with the importance of the game which cannot be understated. It is as Kerrs Tribe said a matter of security and the fact that the irish sporting public are largely 'event junkies'.

No no no no no.....
I can now try to convince you how much Israel is safe in this days and in the last 2 years...but i won't.
The thing i will do is : Ill open a new thread after the game , and ask :
1. Is Israel safe ? ( 99% will say YES for SURE ).
2. Did you have fun ? ( depend's on the match's result probably but im sure that besides the game the fans will have a very good time )

As for the game....
You shouldn't say : WOW Israel is so good , Im " buying " a draw and **** like that. You are a much better team then we are, so why are you are saying that you will take a draw?
On the other hand , you must understand the Israeli reporter.
This year is a big chance for us....and this is a very importent match if not THE most importent one. So the reporter is trying to people to angry at your country maybe ....i dont know what he was thinking about but i think you understand what im talking about.

By the way ( for the ones who are coming ) .... eat before and after the match in the mall ( the have fast food....etc ) because inside the stadium they don't really give you any good food.
P.S- I still can't believe why we ( Israel ) have such a bad stadium IMO, and we want to be a "modern country" . I was in Euro 2004 and In the Amsterdam Arena ( when Maccabi Tel Aviv was In the Champions league this year ) and im planing to go to Germany ( with or without my country ) ....so the stadium's in Europe are years of light far better then Ramat-Gan. No problem with normal Israelis, but they cant really compare themselves with Europe.....both Turkey & them should be playing in the Asian qualifiers, despite,er,not getting on  with their,er,neighbours!

If you don't know Turkey is part in Europe and par in Asia , so to tell them not to play in Europe is really not fair.
About us...You are right we should and WE DID play in the asian qualifiers , but there is no-chance we could no there against teams like Iran etc...
When you talked to about Israeli's and you cant compare them with europe are you talking only about soccer or other things as well?
didnt like your post at all by the way..... i think its a little racist

the_bonk
07/02/2005, 12:22 PM
Well, the problem with Iran et al are well documented. That's down to respective governments.
As for Israel & Europe, talking about the stadia!Though there are cultural differences also......just basing purely on geographical criteria. As for my own feelings re.Israel.....very mixed.....but then we cant  talk about this.....

Yes , we have diffrent cultures but that dosn't mean we can't play in Europe.
You don't know this but the Asian team and esp. the Arab's didnt want to play anymore against us , and thats why we moved to Europe .
Did you know that in the Athens this summer an Iranian Judo ( i don't know how you say it in english so i hope its an international word , the sport ) didnt show up against someone from our team?

Wait...Is it wrong that we have diffrent cultures we can't play in Europe?

Don't like your messages at all.....they don't smell right ( mostly because you attacked Turkey without even thinking that they have some land in Europe. Wait if your not from France, Italy , Holland , Germany it means we can't play against you???? )

If you come to Israel , I would like to talk with you about this subjects.

You'll see our stadium Lansdowne Road if you come to Ireland in June. Most Irish fans are embarrassed by the stadium we currently play in. 22,000 permanent seats in two stands and 14,000 temporary seats built on two terraces behind the goal. Plans are currently in progress to demolish and rebuild as a 50,000 all seated.

As for Israel away being an easy game, I don't think so and I think most fans would disagree. If we get three points we will be doing very well.

hi bonk, u replied to my post earlier,i implied that some people in ireland will be concerned about the security, those who are a wee bit ignorant, i personally would go if i could afford it, i would not worry about the security, maybe a few yrs ago but not now. i understand what u say, it is a similar thing in northern ireland, people outside(who have never been  ) see and read things in the media and write-it off straight away, where i am from, the noisiest thing is a tractor going down the road.:D trouble compared to over 10 years ago is non-existent, may occur in small bad areas of larger towns or cities. my foreign friends are shocked when they come to belfast, how quiet, peaceful and friendly it is. i never said i would settle for a draw, we need a win IMO. i think the reporter is trying to drum up some extra support amongst your people as Israel are up alongside france ireland and the jammy swiss. they are still in it. so i will shut up now. don't be offended by davros, he's really a teddy-bear ;)

Imo they are defently not ignorent , they just know what the media "feeds" them, so i understand the people that are scared because they remember what they saw in the news two years ago in the media. But this is not the situation now.
When some of your friend's will come back they will tell you that what they saw in TV 2 years ago is not even similar to real life ( same thing goes to Belfest ) .
I replyed like that because you said that some people won't go because they are "chickens" , and i think you understand why i replyed the why i did  .
I REALLY hope that we will be in the same group before 2008 EURO and then, much more of you will come after you will hear its safe and fun here.

I spent 2 weeks travelling around Israel during Easter 1998 - during the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the state of Israel. Got to go to all the celebrations etc in a village outside Tel Aviv with a a family I met on the flight over.

At that time there were no security problems, though I did get to see a small number of kids stone Israeli soldiers in the alleayways of the old city (nothing you didn't see on an average day in Derry in the 80's though :D )

Since then the 2nd intifada has kicked-off and the situation has obviously changed a lot, but since the death of Arafat things seem to improving rapidly in terms of Abbas tying-up a new ceasefire/deal.

Israel was a cracking country. The size of Wales but with a zillion times more history, excellent weather, and really seriously bloody interesting. As someone who would naturally side with the Palestinians, it was interesting to get the other perspective as well (I hung-out for a weekend with a girl I knew in the Israeli Defence Forces, and was there for Holacaust day and the 50th anniversaries).

Very liberal girls as well...... :) :p

After the ceasefire agreement today, things should be good for March and into the future.

The last blast was in July of last year. See below.

You must either have a lot of free time on your hands, be a great Ireland fan or are constantly very bored. I'm guessing that all of the above applies to you as you always seem to be very active in a wide range of threads at the same time.

Sorry to read that you can't make it to Tel Aviv this time, I'm sure that Clinton Morisson will be devestated when he hears the bad news!

Since you are very fond of reminding everyone that not only am I going to Israel to support Ireland but I may try my luck with a few of the local Israeli women, I was wondering if you had any advice on how to help Ireland score on and off the pitch. :D

All reasonable suggestions will be considered.
