A new musical, set to open at the Olympia theatre next month, will recall the nation-splitting events of the summer of 2002, when Roy Keane left the Irish squad after a dispute with then national team manager Mick McCarthy.

I, Keano, co-written by Arthur Mathews (of Father Ted fame) and Michael Nugent, with music and lyrics by Paul Woodfull, will be directed by Peter Sheridan, the co-founder of the Project Arts Centre and a renowned playwright and novelist in his own right.

Mario Rosenstock, the creative force behind Today FM’s popular Gift Grub series, stars as the titular (anti-)hero, while Après Match regulars Risteard Cooper and Gary Cooke also appear.
