After our "winter break" we returned to league action on Sunday playing Exeter City supporters at that lovely park venue in East London Hackney Marshes.

With various players missing due to work, injury etc a squad of 13 assembled with the sole intention of heading back West with 3 points. After having to erect our own goalposts and attach the nets we were informed by Red Hughes (ex Exeter now playing for us) that it was the best 11 they could field from their fan base of 20+.

From the start Darren McGee and Tim Nagle dominated the centre of midfield supported by Mick Coffey and Steve Benitez out wide, Red Hughes desperate to score against his club and Liam Kelly up front were constantly onto the through balls though twarted by good defending and saves from the Exeter keeper. The Irish central defence Donnie Mullin , Karl McGee stayed firm and Jon Carey playing left back supported the midfield and forwards with his darting runs on the left. Dan Healey right back also made his presence felt with a few early crunching tackles leaving goalie Sean O' Halloran with little to do.

The breakthrough came on the 30th min mark in the first half an Irish Corner was met by Liam Kelly who headed it into the Exeter goal. Just before the break Tim Nagle had the chance to make it 2-0 but maybe had too much time.

Despite a little bit of pressure in the 2nd half we held firm Darren McGee outstanding in the centre of Midfield winning everything and taking any pressure of the defence. Chances came in the 2nd half with Liam Kelly, Red Hughes, Mick Coffey, Tim Nagle and Steve Benitez all coming close thought he score still remained 1-0 at full time.
The only down point from the game was Jon carey limping off with about 10 mins to go and will be out of action for abourt a month.

A good win for the start of the year which hopefully will continue with the games coming every week, Norwich City @ King Georges Park, Wandsworth this sunday 2pm ko.
