No opposition, league in the bag, big Cup game on Friday, hard to lift yourself.

First defeat of the season last night against a just above premier league mid table team and what we all be saying for most of the season our defence is nowhere near good enough for premier league level only for Freddie last night it could of be 5 or 6.
It's the first area that needs addressing in the off season it will not be good enough next season.

Played 4 premier teams and only lost to 1.

Will need strengthening alright but that would go without saying as you will have tougher opposition every week. Money needs to be there to do so I suppose.

I don't think anyone on here thinks that the Limerick defence as it is will be good enough for the Premier Division.

So what we have learned is we will win some and lose some next season...I for one am totally shocked.

I didn't feel there was a need for a double substitution. The strongest players were already on the pitch and i thought Flynn for say..Kenny and mulhall to the right wing would have done. But instead we had Mulhall and Kenny off, Russell and O'Flynn on....Greene moved to the center to put Russell on the left. Lee jay moved to the right wing. The third substitution was IMO another waste. Garbhan on, green moved back to the left, Russell moved to left full and Tracy off. Lee jay was our most productive player the other night yet he was moved to the wing to facilitate all these positional swaps. Played well up to their first goal but once we went behind it was all to Finn harps all over.

Have to agree about Lee J in particular everything good we did was coming from him through the middle linking things up and moving it quickly as soon as he was taken out of there it was slowed down and he could be nowhere near as effective on the wing. In fairness to Sean Russell I think he did well enough when he came on but both with Mulhall and O'Flynn Pats just suffocated the life out of our strikers we couldn't get em the ball in any meaningful areas. Its not even so much the double sub I have a problem with its just moving Lee J if he had brought off Mulhall and Greene for the two lads and kept Lee J in where he was I think it would have been a lot better. At the end of the day though I think it was more a quality second half display from Pats more than anything we did that lost us the game and they have the ability to do that to anyone.

According to club Facebook, FAI TV is streaming the match from 1750.

Very poor stream, camera work, commentator knowledge. All boxes ticked, this isn't watchable with any enjoyment, a pity as I was really looking forward to it.

Wonder what we can expect from the last six games?

Well done to all involved, brilliant season. Fair play to the lads who followed the team all over this season too.

I reckon I am just about sober now after it. Great achievement from all the players and coaching staff. Hopefully just the start this season and beyond.

So, five dead rubbers left, presume the trophy will be awarded at last home game vs Drogs on October 8th. Will players have the drive to complete an undefeated season? What do you want Russell to try out?

Us losing any of the remaining games would upset me much more than the cup final defeat.

The sooner these last 4 games are out of the way the better if lastnight was anything to go by absolutely dire.

I missed the game - what was it like?

Extratime had us down as jaded and said Shels had much the better of the first half, but we improved and finally forced a goal.

How accurate is that? And does anybody know what happened to O'Flynn?

It was bad enough in the first half that someone had on twitter that the game could be fixed and a lot of us believed it haha

I wouldn't say jaded we just looked like a team that had absolutely no interest in being there we woke up then for 10-15 mins started getting forward a bit and eventually got the goal. Fairly accurate from Extratime tbf except I think it was a lack of interest rather than tiredness was the problem.

No idea what happened John but seen him after the game and he was walking fine so hopefully nothing too serious.

Jaded me eye, we were just absolutely dire. No interest on the pitch or in the dugout going by the starting line-up.

shelbourne are pants ****tingly awful though so weren't able to capitalise.

If that's us for the rest of the season I'd be putting the Christmas club money on cobh.

Shels seem like a particularly hopeless case in the graveyard at the moment, not strong enough for a promotion push and in a crumbling stadium.

Nothing to do with Limerick that point, but I caught myself thinking about the clubs in the FD recently and which ones are viable in the long term.

Were you at the game in Tolka? Crowd was worrying I reckon they were even stretching it with 400+ tbh

Lack of effort is very annoying the last 2 games yes the league is won and it has been a great season overall but people have still payed to travel to Dublin and Cobh the last 2 weeks to see this team get paid for half of em to not bother showing up at all and it has cost us our attempt at a record that has stood for 89 years on top of all that.

Mad how Shane Tracy was a left back again all of a sudden he wasn't seen as a left back for 2 weeks.

Us losing any of the remaining games would upset me much more than the cup final defeat.

And there we go.

Everything was wrong all night long.

I appreciate that the players will already be thinking that the job is done, and that intensity will fade as the league is won, but there was a chance to go through the season unbeaten - to literally get your name in the history books - and a few of them didn't give a f**k. As a squad and a management team, it was appalling. Did we have a shot on target? I don't think so.

For much of the season we've had spells in game like last night - where we grind to a halt for a while and look utterly mediocre, before we finally wake up. Last night we were up against a team with real fight and spirit in them, and we looked mediocre all night. We were shocking, and even after all the success so far, it's sickening.

I think there is always something to aim for.

When the division was effectively won so early we could have aimed for 100 league goals or an unbeaten season. It's a pity we haven't achieved either.

About what you could expect tonight with the changes made but no problem with giving some of the lads a game really. Hope the crowd is much better Saturday to get the cup.

They didn't give the attendance. Would 400 be a sensible estimate?

Jofspring

Ya 400-500 I'd say. The crowd can really get lost in the stand when the attendance is low.

Good result tonight. Team was in control in the first half and took advantage of some terrible defensive sloppiness with the two goals, before that bizarre sending off (seemed like the ref rushed over to stop Mulhall talking to the linesmen to avoid personal embarrassment as much as anything). But Limerick shut things down really well in the second.

Great atmosphere all game, really nice occasion.

With so much at stake for Drogheda, amazed they didn't produce better.

I thought the same, they were a better, more determined side in previous games.

But they still only need to avoid defeat against UCD to stay above them and be in the playoffs (regardless of what Cobh do).

Delighted with your result last night:cool: It's up to us now to make it count next week. I was more worried about Drogheda winning last night than UCD the night before as I felt that if Drogs secured a play-off place last night that there was always a chance that they would ease up in their game against UCD next week. Thankfully that scenario is gone now.
Congrats on the title too.

Was actually the lino that made the decision ref played on lino flagged and indicated Chris should be booked. Shocking decision though.

Agree it was a great occasion too fantastic to see so many kids getting caught up in the atmosphere.

Last game in first division was showed people what first division really is all about terrible ground terrible game no atmosphere whatsoever a great reminder of what we are getting away from. Great season though tbf more than I had hoped for at the start of the season anyway especially with the final and all even with the result in that.

Duggy and Mulhall nominated for first division player of the year.

Freddy,Tracy,Robbie,Paudie,Duggy,Lee J,Greene and Mulhall on team of the year. Harsh on Stephen Kenny to miss out.

Jofspring

Due to the time out injured you probably could have slotted Kenny in ahead of Greene.
