Disappointed to see he has been banned.

Me too. It all seemed very sudden. Yeah, 95, okay 99% of his posts were off topic but I don't think it ever really led to chaos or anything. I know it's easy for me to say as I'm not the one constantly reminding him to stick the the point, etc. I won't have a leg to stand on if Dahamsta/Tets come at me with that argument.
I think it was good that there was a little leeway given for randomness/comic relief, and Crosby did it better than anybody else. I think all the other posters realised he was an unwritten exception when it came to being tolerated for random posting. Maybe we missed something though, what was the straw that broke the camel's back after eight years?

I don't know the ins and outs of it but he struck me as being a good spud. I'm not questioning the decision without knowing why it was made but i wouldn't mind knowing the reason behind it.
Was warned over and over in fairness.
And then warned some more.

Personally thought he was a wum.

I can't say I ever found myself being 'wound up' by his posts, not even in the slightest.

Maybe not, but I found he at best just dragged things way off topic. Can't remember him ever adding anything tbh.

I found him funny for the most part, a bit annoying sometimes but in a benign way. The world has room for eccentrics and is often better for them.

Wum was used for want of a better term really. If there's a better word to describe someone who doesn't really contribute in a meaningful way and simply posts random off-topic rubbish then I'd love to know as it seemed to be around 95% of his posts.

I just ignored him but he was harmless. Tried the quirky thing too much.
No idea what he was like from a mod perspective.
I can think of other posters that cause more disruption.

I thought some of his posts were pretty funny. Some of the discussions round here can get pretty stuffy and self-righteous (guilty) and a quick swipe from Crosby tended to rightly puncture that bubble.
Didn't bother me, but I can see the mods' point of view.

Another classic tricky_colour thread title. I thought he was courting opinion on what we should actually do with Crozzer.

I think it's quite apt. Is there life after foot.ie? :o

Silly. the word I would use.

Is there life after foot.ie? :o
"Is the afterlife foot.ie?" might be a better question... :)
Poor old Crosby. He was a pain in the tits but he was our pain in the tits.

I liked his posts, even if I could not even understand a lot of them, as you says sometime things can get a bit stuffy
he brought a bit of light relief from that, it takes all sorts to make a forum and if you dont like something don't
read it.
Everyone has different likes and dislikes and if you removed everything someone objected to there would not be anything left!!
Crosby was a poster who liked to think outside the box, sometimes way out side the box, if you do not like his posts the solution is to put him on ignore as others may not share your opinion.

There is a the worm on ybig ( theworm2345) I presume that is who you mean, last active last week, Crosby87 is also on ybig
too, last active last month, it seems Crosby87 didn't post as much as I though,it is just that you tend
to remember his posts as they are "a big different"!!
I think theworm left ybig cos he could not stand it there seems he has gone back for more punishment.

Well I had no problem with him at all, it takes a lot to wind me, up you only get wound up if you choose to.
Indeed half the time I had no idea what he was talking about!
Anyhow where will I get my betting tips from now?

The way I see it is I would rather see post I can ignore than not see posts I can't ignore ;)

worm only posts the weekly goalscoring players on Saturdays on YBIG, he's on hiatus now until the new season starts in August.
he's not banned here, just doesn't post anymore

And Crosby's ban? Refusing to stay on topic?

TBF I don't think moderators should need to explain these kinds of decisions publicly.

They clearly don't need to, I just think it would be mannerly seeing as some people on here seem to think a banning may have been a bit unnecessary, or at least just come out and say it's a private matter instead of just waiting for this thread to blow over/fizzle out. If Stuttgart88, DannyInvincible, etc. were banned suddenly I'd imagine there would be a far bigger demand for an explanation seeing as it would be viewed as a detrimental to the forum, well some of us think Crosby will be a loss also. Obviously the main difference is that we can all presume to some degree why Crosby was banned, but I don't see why it can't be confirmed. After eight years and 3,500 I don't think it's unreasonable for his cyber associates to request answers. :) Anyway, point taken, I'll leave it there.

Just a heads-up: I'll be hosting a memorial dinner for Crosby in Crackbird tomorrow night. All friends and well-wishers welcome.

Crosby brought humour and randomness to many threads, and on the odd occasion, added to them. Why the hell ban him? If people had a problem with him, ignore his posts. Worm has always done the scorers on YBIG and continues to do so. I do remember he took offence to Stu and I battling over Tommie/Tommy Hoban threads and who would get the most posts. Soon after he stopped posting on here. So it seems two American lads of Irish origin ( I believe) are no more!
Am not a mod on the Ireland forum and only read it around games, but from the thread on the mod forum it looks like it was for thread spoiling / consistent off topic posting.
And as I said before he was warned over and over. It was obviously annoying some users as the posts were reported.
Not sure how long the ban is. Will ask in Mod forum.
Ban is permanent according to dahamsta.

I thought I posted here yesterday: I don't actually remember the straw that broke the camel's back in this case but I don't dish out bans lightly, this guy rarely if ever posted on topic and was driving people demended.
EDIT: So demended that people lost the ability to spell the word demended.

The lad didn't contribute anything to the forum.
It would've been okay if he was the slightest bit witty.

There's no need to get nasty. And obviously a lot of us found him very witty. Humour isn't for everybody though, as you proved on the Stephen Ireland thread.
As for those who presumably went about reporting another poster, I hope your problems in the real world aren't so serious.
Thanks for the explanation though.
