The other clubs named for pre-season were local sides, Arrow Harps, Ballymote Celtic and Real Tubber. Longford Town is an away fixture. I didn't hear we had Derry, but it would be nice to have them in the Showgrounds.

Sligo Rovers have lined up ten pre-season fixtures prior to the big First Division kick-off on the weekend of 20th March. A mixture of cross border, local and Premier Division sides are sure to put Rovers through their paces before the football starts in earnest.

Speaking to sligorovers.com, manager Sean Connor agreed that ten is a large number of pre-season games, but he feels that with so many new players on trial that he needs that many games in order to properly assess them.

The manager, in his first full season in charge is using Irish League teams and Eircom League Premier Division clubs because as he feels “that’s the standard that we need to maintain.”

In selecting Arrow Harps, Ballymote Celtic, Real Tubber and Gurteen Celtic because Connor wants to bring the team out into the county of Sligo and involve the club more in the local community.

“These games are not about results, they are all about players and the build up to when results matter on the weekend of 2oth March,” he concluded.
