All the excitement in the final ten minutes as both sides, particularly Wexford, spurned very good chances to take all three points in Ferrycarrig tonight. Wexford began with the same XI as against Galway with Graham, Craig, Gary, Lasty, Danny Ledwith, Eric, Hopper, Aidan, Andy, Jonny and with Spot up front. The pitch in Ferrycarrig is currently very bumpy and dry and both sides were prepared to put their foot through the ball rather than keeping it down in what was a very undistinguished first half. Harps set-piece looked the more dangerous, however, and on four minutes a long-throw from McNamee led to a Harps effort on goal but it was blocked away by Graham Doyle in the Youths' goal. With 15 minutes gone, a corner by the Youths eventually fell to Danny Ledwith but he shot a yard wide. On 25 minutes, Harps won a penalty when one of their forwards was clipped from behind in the act of shooting. Ryan Curran put Harps 1-0 up when he sent Graham Doyle the wrong way from the spot. With ten to go in the half, Houston for Harps picked up a yellow for a pull-back and Harps went in ahead at half-time after a very poor 45 minutes particularly from a very hesitant Youths.

Wexford couldn't play as badly in the second half and started well as their midfield came more into the game led by Jonny Bonner. Harps had a half-chance in the first two minutes when the ball bobbled round the Youths' penalty area after a Harps corner, and Graham Doyle had to push a snap-shot round the post for a corner. Then, on eight minutes, Spot Murphy put Andy Mulligan through on Gallagher in the Harps goal, and he managed to knock it low past the advancing Gallagher for 1-1. Wexford had a good spell after notching the equaliser and Hopper Kenny managed to steer a low cross by Eric Molloy just wide of the post shortly after. This was followed by a speculative volley from far out by Spot Murphy which went a yard over the bar. Wexford's Aidan Friel then got a yellow for a tackle and Graham Doyle got down low to save a shot by Mickey Funston who had just come on for the Harps. Then, inside the last ten minutes, Wexford missed two great chances off a low cross into the box, one of which hit the post. This was followed by a free header for Funston for Harps about ten yards out, but he let it come off his head rather than directing it and it went a yard wide with only Graham Doyle to beat. A decent block by the Youths' defence from a Harps corner then ended the match on a 1-1 scoreline, with Funston getting a very late yellow for a pull-back on Spot Murphy in injury time.

Best for Wexford was Spot Murphy up front, but he needs the returning Danny Furlong to provide more close support if Youths are to advance further up the table. Jonny Bonner had a good second half, while Danny Ledwith and Gary Delaney were secure at the back. 1-1 at full-time with about 420 at the match.
