WYW took another important step towards retaining their league title in Ferrycarrig tonight as they accounted for a battling Galway side in a hard-fought game. Although WYW dominated possession for most of the game, Galway's strength appeared to be in defence and it was only with nine minutes to go that WYW got the all-important second goal. WYW began with Tamara, Nicola, Jess, Lolly, Linda, Kylie, Edel, Aisling, Ruth and with Emma playing behind Claire up front. Galway's best spell came at the start of the game as they looked the fresher while WYW looked to be still trying to shake the effects of last Wednesday's game against UCD from their legs. McKee was doing well down Galway's left with some nice skills but other than one good catch low down from a cross, Tamara Furlong in the WYW goal hadn't much to do. WYW eased themselves gradually into the game and scored with one of their first chances when Edel Kennedy put a ball through for Emma Hansberry who lobbed the advancing Hughes in the Galway goal for 1-0 to the home side. WYW dominated possession for the rest of the first period but real chances were scarce enough. On 25 minutes, Kylie Murphy hit a pile-driver from just inside the box but it was straight at Hughes in the Galway goal who managed to block it away. Emma Hansberry then had a couple of good set-pieces but WYW couldn't capitalise and the half ended on a 1-0 scoreline to the home side. Just before the whistle for the end of the first half, the hard-working Linda Douglas picked up a yellow for a tackle.

Wexford continued their territorial domination in the second half and, other than a few frees into the WYW penalty area, Galway didn't really threaten to notch the equaliser. On 5 minutes, WYW's Emma Hansberry got a free on target, but Hughes managed to push it round the post for a corner. On 14 minutes, Claire O'Riordan couldn't believe she missed an easy chance when set up in front of the Galway goal by Aisling Frawley. Midway through the second half, Aoibhin Webb came on in place of Linda Douglas and with 13 to go, Becky Cassin for an excellent Emma Hansberry. Then, with nine minutes to go, Aisling Frawley weaved some winger-magic along the Galway end-line to leave Claire O'Riordan with a simple tap-in for 2-0 to WYW and the three points secured. Amy Walsh then came on for Aisling Frawley and match ended soon after on 2-0 scoreline to the home side. Very good performance overall by the home side with no weaknesses being shown at all but Linda Douglas down the right and Lolly Conlon at left full put in very impressive efforts. 2-0 at full-time and WYW now go joint top of the league with four games left to play.
