The other Reid thread was getting a bit big so time for a new one. According to the Indo Spurs put in a £4m bid last week and it is expected to be finalised this week.

ONE of Gary Megson's first jobs as Nottingham Forest manager is likely to be saying goodbye to star player Andy Reid.

Last week Tottenham Hotspur tabled a £4m bid for the Irish winger and the deal is expected to go through this week to give the new manager money to strengthen his squad.

The Spurs deal is likely to involve an initial £2m payment, with another £2m linked to performances. They had a £3m offer rebuffed in the summer.

"People focus on Andy Reid but there are other good players at this club and I'd expect Premiership clubs to have an interest," said Megson.

"Any manager will tell you he wants to keep his best players but that's not always possible - perhaps because a player no longer wants to stay - but everyone at this club needs to pull together and focus on making sure we stay in this division."

Megson, sacked as West Brom manager in October, has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Forest, who lie second bottom in the Championship and six points off safety.

Caretaker boss Mick Harford and coach Des Walker have left the club.
