O’Connor sets Purcell target
New Limerick FC manager Noel OConnor has admitted that he would be interested in re-signing the club’s former favourite, ace central defender Pat Purcell.
Limerick native Purcell left the Shannonsiders for Premier Division side Waterford United 12 months ago.

according to a source close to the WUFC, Purcell is on the verge of re-signing his contract with Rennie.
Its anyone's guess where he will be playing next season, but you have to ask yourself this, why would Purcell want to go back to Limerick in the short term.
First Division v Premier Division Club with stability & higher wages and standards.
a no brainer really.

All true except for one factor... Limerick F.C. is practically on his doorstep as opposed to being 80 miles away.

mmmmm partizan it seems the two lads have put up two "no brainers" as to why paddy would want to rejoin his local EL side. Add to that the fact that he is often abroad mid week and has to get back to shannon and make his way down to Waterford for training or whatever. The new prob he has with Waterford is that "Rennie" is insisting on his squad being local or nearly local or in paddys case being ther for early morning training 3 times a week! Now if you were working in shannon etc etc...but we await to see who he signs with. Oh why didnt you go to WIT instead of UL?

Ever hear of commitment to a club? Football isn't all about money. :ball:
And maybe he wants to play for a team that doesn't kick its way through matches. Quite a few no-brainers at this stage.

If he was so committed to LFC,why has he played for both WUFC and St.Pats???????

It seems LFC didn't get to do much kicking of either the opposition or the spherical object called a "football" last season!!!!
If Purcell has any ambition whatsoever to match his undoubted talent, its a no-brainer!!!!!!

Yes, for Waterford it is a case of either/or - just kick anything... :)

If it really is a no-brainer, then why has it taken Purcell so long to re-sign for United. Seems certain to me that he doesn't really want to and will be coming home to Lims for next season. :)

Purcell is trying to hold-out for as long as possible on signing for either club. It's obvious hes waiting to see what the plans the new Limerick set-up haveand what players the new management brings in.
To be honest he should be told to either sign or else **** off,its not fair on either club to have them hanging about like this!!!!

It would be great if we did sign Pat and I hope I am wrong but I don't think he will sign for us this season so don't be surprised if he returns to Waterford. Players have started pre-season training out in UL working on weights and while Anthony Wolfe was there along with the usual suspects, Pat wasn't. As ye might have heard Noel travelled down to Kerry and trained with the four Kerry lads before signing them so that clearly indicates he's anxious to sign players and start them training so I can't imagine him hanging around waiting for Pat to make up his mind. It really shouldn't be taking Pat this long to decide whom to sign up with, if he's that indecisive he would be better of flipping a coin.

Does he always have that mad hair?

I think wolfey will do well for you, very nice guy, his tackling is super but his distribution after getting the ball is not great. Good luck though.

Just heard from Nempton that Pat signed with Waterford tonight. Pity but at least we have two center halves going into this season rather then last.

Hmmm... I'm suspecting the the whole thing was a bit of a PR stunt, from Limerick's point of view it looks good to be linked with Premier players and from Pat's own perspective I suppose that Limerick made a good bargaining chip when he wanted a two year deal even if he had to settle for one in the end.
