Slash/ED

So, all the votes were in on wednesday and the countings been done, it's time to present the winners with the first (hopefully of many) foot.ie yearly awards! The presentation itself has been done in powerpoint format (Thanks to A Face for that) which you can download from the link below, if anyone has any problems with getting the file working leave a reply here and hopefully either it can be fixed or I can send you an e-mail with the results. Anyway, without whaffling on too much, here's the link, with thanks to Adam for hosting it for me.

http://foot.ie/inc/ppt/foot.ie_awards_2004.ppt

Just download that, run it in powerpoint and view the slideshow. If anyone has any comments, complaints or suggests leave a reply here, since hopefully there will be another one of these for next year any ideas you might have would be very welcome too.

Enjoy!

Who were the awards voted for by? I'm assuming there was voting from a broad range of voter types, yeah?
Very surprised that LTFC got not a nomination, nevermind award. Apart from the end when they were used as one of the few clubs worthy of summing up the whole season. Strange...

I'll take those awards with a pinch of salt please. Shels' 'Indian War Cry' as best chant? You're having a laugh.

Must say I didn't see the thread.
How many votes were cast in total?
Couldn't really be a true representation of the broad range of fans we have on this board, surely

in respect, that is brutal... Maybe I'm being sore at the absolute disregard for the entire league, apart from Shels and Cork... But I see it for what it is, and all it is is a tribute from dillusional supporters. A waste of broadband, downloading that.

what sort of computer is that PowerPoint is an optional part of MS Office or a standalone program and it does not come cheap. It would never be part of the software bundled with a computer.
However, you can get a viewer which lets you see PP presentations but not make any.

According to popular belief:

a) Shels have no fans

b) Nobody likes us

So, which is wrong?

And btw this particular Shels fan didn't partake in the survey.

I'll post up the results here later today.

Lads, if I remember rightly no Longford fans actually voted which is probably why you got no nomination. I can only post up the results of those that voted, if you've a problem with the results and you didn't vote you haven't really got a right to complain. I was suprised by the lack of a nomination for Longford I have to admit but there you go. I'm pretty sure only one Shels fan voted for that matter, that being me, and my votes were worth one vote like everybody elses. The vote was open to any and everyone who uses the forum and that's simply how the votes went.

For the record I wasn't complaining - just simply asking some questions about the poll as i was surprised (like yourself) by the results.

I think the problem was as everyone was voting by E-mail there was nothing to stop the thread from sinking which is why a few people missed it but I did post two threads up, one with the idea and one witht he voting details so I was hopeing it wouldn't be a big issue. Hopefully for next year none of you will miss it :)

I think some of you are being a bit harsh on Slash/ED, he did this completely off the bat in his own time, with limited resources. It's the first year, hopefully of many, so cut him some slack. Next year we'll try and set up a dedicated polling booth and we might even try to organise some kind of prize fund from donations, with Slash/ED's agreement of course.

Well said boss man. Personally i missed the thread myself, it should have been made a sticky and that would have given it a bit more expousre and a chance for more people to vote. But with all things like this people nearly always vote for a player off there own team or a player they dislike the most etc....... Good job Slash/ed.

Not many, somewhere in the region of 15-20. I'd hoped for more and it seems more people missed the thread than I thought, hopefully you'll all know for next year ;) .

Thanks for the good words dahamsta and everyone else and for the person looking for just the results I'll post them up now. I can't put the nominations in too as it would go beyond the posting limit.

It was a very short run to be fair and I didn't think many people would notice, but I wanted Slash/ED to have his run so I kept my mouth shut.

I was thinking along the same lines earlier on in the year but I was really concentrating on one particular award: Best Supporters. Obviously there could have been other awards too, but I wanted to concentrate on Best Supporters because: a) that's a lot of what Foot.ie is about, fostering support for the eL; and b) I was thinking of asking for donations for a prize fund, which would be awarded to the club that won (for development obviously).

I wasn't actually going to implement this until next year anyway, because I thought it would be a good idea to give a full season's notice so people could keep an eye on things with the award in mind, so should we give it a go for next year? Again, it would have to be with Slash/ED's blessing of course, but I've mentioned it already and he seemed keen.

Absolutley, that sounds like an excellent idea. We could add that category to whatever kind of awards will be run next year and we've plenty of time to get a fund going, since people know it will be going towards an EL club I think they'd be more than willing to get involved with helping the fund too. The whole thing this year was implemented with very short notice which is hopefully something that wont be an issue next year, I think with more planning and now that people will be looking out for it we can get far more votes in and it'll be far better next year overall. That's the plan anyway.

But of course if that is the case then it is likely that a lot of supporters clubs will have campaigns to get people regsitered here to vote for their club. Rewards the club with the most supporters which is not necessarily the Best Supporters. For example there is no way that Limerick FC supporters would beat Cork City supporters to this award yet the supporters of Limerick FC have shown true commitment to their club in very difficult times while it is very easy to be a Cork City supporter these days (just an example - not getting at City - see my location).

If money is available (e.g. for flags) then smaller clubs without a lot of supporters but with very commited supporters may need that more.

So, my suggestion is that members of the board are not allowed vote for their own club. Any comments? :ball:

Well done on the awards!
However in light of the highly unethical behaviour of one or two club managers in the past two seasons may I suggest two categories for next season:

Judas of the Year
and of course there should also be a Clown Prince of the Year too ! ;)

Thats basically the same as villain of the year ;)

Is there only Cork and Shels in the league then?

As for Shels winning the best chant thats a complete joke.I would have said they should have won the most annoying chant of the season award!!!!
